games at a 4 year old bday party?

I am feeling anxious about DS's bday party this saturday. I am completely unprepared and don't even have all the details set in stone yet! We are doing a superhero theme and there will be some family and about 4 or 5 four-six year olds there. We are definitely doing a pin the tail on the donkey....going to try to find something superhero themed instead though (any recs?) but as far as other games go I am lost.

I want to keep it to non-competitive games and just have it be fun so there are no tears. A friend mentioned twister, but I wasn't sure if four year olds would get it or not. Any recs or ideas are SO welcome!!

  • Musical chairs? Super hero bingo?

  • Musical Chairs were a hit at my DD's birthday, a pinata(sp?), beanbag toss into something, Limbo, Hokey Pokey, Simon Said

  • When my twins turned 4 we didn't have any games.  Everyone arrived and played in the playroom.  Then we ate, more playing, opened gifts, played outside for a bit, had cake/ice cream and then more playing.   We had 11 kiddos and they all played nicely together and no one got bored.  Someone else's toys are always fun!!
  • I once went to a superhero party where there were crafts set up at tables for kids to do.  Kids decorated their own masks and capes with glitter paint, etc which was fun.

  • I did a Super Hero party in September.  It was nice enough to go outside so we set up a few games in the yard.  I gave each little hero a can of silly string as their Spiderman web shooter and printed pictures of bad guys and put them around the yard.  They ran around shooting the bad guy pictures.

Then, we had pin the cape on the superhero.  It was a poster of a superman-like hero flying across the sky without a cape.  Same as pin the tail on the donkey.

With 4 year olds you could even have a relay with changing clothes like Clark Kent/Superman.  A man's dress shirt and tie (and glasses would be sooo cute) on one end of the relay, they they run down, take of the shirt, tie & glasses and put on a cape.

Google it. . . you'll find 1000 ideas.  Good Luck!  Have Fun!!
