Toddlers: 24 Months+

wants nummy i.e. pacifier now more

Welll my plan to get rid of her nummy is probably not happening anytime soon- she will be 27 months next week and we only have used it for naps, nighttime and in the car (we have to use in car bc she gets car sick and is a pain in the butt in the car.)

But now she wants it sometimes when we go out-not all the time- still doesnt use it at school for the 2 days a week -  I am chalking it up to the fact that she is able to tell us what she wants now so its easy for her to say "nummy please" and thats why she wants it more? And if I dont give it to her she starts crying and just gets all out of sorts.

Then maybe its a comfort thing to her to have it so I am torn if I should give it to her lets say when we are at Target and she starts acting out and wants it?  Ugh I wish I never used it so much when she was little!!!!

  • Try the Bye Bye Binky method. It's a free pdf just search on your computer. DS1 was addicted to his paci and this worked wonderfully. No crying just helped him get to the point where he wanted to throw them away himself. Good luck!

ETA: I probably should have read more carefully since getting rid of it won't help her car sickness. Is there anything else you can do in the car to help her? Not familiar with dealing with that myself.

  • We just god rid of "paci" and I thought that would never happen! He loved his so much he would say, " I wuv you paci". He would go all day without it at daycare and we had it just for car and bedtime too. We did the same thing as having to leave it in bed and leave it in the car seat. Then we said it was time to throw it away and let him literally throw it. We have a boy and he thought that was pretty cool he could throw. He asked for it and we would remind him that he threw it away and was a big boy. That being said he also has a blanket attachment so we made sure he had his blankie at night plus a cup and a new stuffed rhino to sleep with. He cried for it but it gradually got better. He still asked for it up to a week later and would even search for it in his bag where I normally kept extras. After that it's been smooth sailing. He does put his fingers in his mouth some at night to sleep and I worried he might suck his thumb but he hasn't. We also use dum-dums as rewards for good behavior and car trips so that might help with car sickness. Good Luck!! :)
