Daughter cries during bedtime help??

My daughter is 2 and she has started crying everytime we put her to bed.  She used to just go to bed without any fuss but now she cries and it's only at night not for nap time.  I want to just put her in our bed bc it breaks my heart but we are expecting and I don't want to start a new habit. Any ideas or solutions?  Is this normal?

Re: Daughter cries during bedtime help??

  • This is usually around the age they are more aware of fears before bed and often start experiencing night terrors. It's normal for a kid to start being apprehensive at bed time, but stick with your gut and don't start a habit that will be extremely hard to break. With DD I gave in, and I'm still trying to break her of coming in our room etc. and putting her to bed can take as long as an hour some nights. DS has always been the easiest kid to put to bed, but now screams about everything to get us back in his room until he finally gives up and falls asleep 20min later, I go in and try to comfort, but let him cry a little longer each time I go in. Just give your LO a heads up bed time is coming, comfort her, remind her mommy and daddy are close by, and try not to feed into the crying and fear because that usually only makes things worse. You could read to her until she falls asleep, put on comforting music, or just let her CIO. GL!

  • Ours does too. It's getting better. It's not every night but it breaks my heart and he knows it! I sit on his bed and read, sing, rub his back etc. Then I give it 10 min. MOST times he's asleep within the 10. If not then I go in and check on him, ask if he needs water, an extra blanket, etc.. Sometimes that's all he needs and then he'll settle down. Dad has been putting him to bed more too because he doesn't cry as bad when he puts him to bed it seems. I caved twice and let him in our bed and that prompted several nights in a row of crying for "mamas bed" so try to avoid it if you can! I'm just a softie too.
