June 2012 Moms

Re: UO

  • I think people who hold a high position in the community really, REALLY need to watch what they say on facebook. I called out a pastor for (jokingly) wanting to cause harm to certain members of congress. I think we could all agree to that sentiment, but really? The world is scary and violent enough. I would flip if my youngin's were exposed to that backwoods, militia mentality. You dont handle money problems with violence. End of story. How Christ-like, right?

  • I agree with you that people should be more mindful of what they say, but I would tend to include not just people of a high position but anyone who considers themselves a role-model for others (which would basically include all self-professed Christians by definition, right?). I try to take jokes as they are intended, but it does bother me.

My UO is that I am frustrated with my pedi's office stance on vaccinations. They want everything given on a regimented schedule, and they kind of make me feel like "that weird mom" for going with an alternate schedule. Even though they've been flexible so far, I feel like we're going to butt heads over this before too long. DS has gotten all of his shots (except for Hep B) so far, but we do no more than 2 at a time. We opted out of the flu shot yesterday b/c they only carry the kind in a multi-dose vial which contains mercury. I was super disappointed to find out they don't do the single-dose vials b/c we've been living like recluses most of the winter to avoid the flu bug. :(

  • I don't want to give LO any sugar before age 1. I really have to read the labels because some of the "natural" baby foods have it.

When I hear/see a baby eating fast food I judge it hard. There is no reason your 5 mo old needs to be eating KFC mashed potatoes! This is not unpopular but Ill share.

Speaking of judging, (this may also not be unpopular) but the Alpha Parent lady is the biggest judgmental twat I have ever seen in my life. I cant even look at her blog. It literally puts me in a bad mood for hours.

We should switch pedis! I like mine a lot and I am totally open to the alternate schedule, but he seems far too relaxed about it in my opinion. He's only done 2 vaccines at a time since DD was born, which I'm ok with. At her 6th month appointment, DH took her, and he didn't give her any vaccines, saying he wanted to wait until March. So we got a letter from the daycare saying she was due for 2 vaccines. I had to make a new appointment to take her in to get them. I'll have to be more viligant about making sure she gets them on a more regular schedule. Have you tried Walgreens or CVS to see if they have the single-dose flu vaccines?

LOL, I still check it out. She changed the format and it's horrible. It's basically just an ton of her advertising posts. I do like the monthly updates on her kid, she's adorable.

Why do parties (for birthdays, etc.) have to have a theme?  I get asked this a lot when I'm planning little parties for DDs and I just feel like saying "the theme is it's a birthday party."  :)

    I like that "theme"

My Pedi is very supportive of our alternate schedule but the other one in the office and the nurses always first list I off everything he should be getting that day then I say no, he's on the alternate schedule, today he's getting... Then they run me through the "dangers" and make me sign a waiver. Our office does the preservative mercury free flu vaccines. But at our appt last week our Pedi said that the flu has almost passed through our area and because he's watched by family and not in day care that he thinks it's unnecessary. I was very impressed, normally it's pushed so hard.
