Pregnant after 35

Sinus issues

I feel like a dummie for asking this, but if I suspect a sinus infection would I just call my regular Dr. or my OB? I haven't been sick at all this pregnancy (knock on wood) but my sinuses are a total mess. I know that can be normal but I'm concerned this is starting to border on abnormal/infection. Last time I called my regular Dr. about something completely unrelated, they were kind of witchy with me and told me to call my OB.

I pretty much have a bloody nose all day everyday amongst other lovely things coming out of my nose, and I'm starting to feel head achy from it as well.

Re: Sinus issues

  • I would definitely call my ob for anything while I was pregnant.  He/she can advise you if you need to do differently.  I haven't even seen a pcp in several years though.

I think sinus issues and bloody noses are super common in pregnancy.  Hopefully your ob will give you some good meds or advice.

  • I would def. call your OB and I will also offer up that a humidifier has made all the difference in me not having such extreme bloody sinuses/nose every day.
  • If it were me, I'd start with my PCP.  But I also know mine would treat me for a simple sinus infection (in fact he already has this pregnancy) and not pass me back to my OB. Maybe give your regular doctor another chance?

  • Bleeding from the nose all day everyday? That's a bit much even for pregnancy. Call the OB! And I will second the humidifer recommendation. I have one, just need to get it set up.

  • I would call your OB. I have a priamary care doctor listed on my medical card but I think I've only seen him once in 3 years. I have a much better relationship with my OB. Also, I second what PP said about trying the Netti Pot. I got a sinus infection right after thanksgiving and it was the only thing that got me thru it. It helps to flush your sinuses and to provide the hydration you need to help with the bloody nose.

I'm sorry you have to go thru this, between sinus infections and allergies I've been dealing with this for over a month so I know exactly how you feel.

     Hope you feel better soon!

All of this.  I got strep at the beginning of this pregnancy and went to my regular doctor but some docs are weird about it and will refer you to your OB.

I have had horrible sinus issues with this pregnancy.  Blood, sinus headaches and just overall feeling swollen in my sinuses if that makes sense.  I think it's pretty common.

    Good Luck!

  • I've had 2 sinus infections. OB ok'd zpak bc I'm allergic to penacillin. Both times I went to primary and told them what OB approved.

  • I'm in the same boat, not sick but bloody stuffy nose everyday. I second a humidifier, but even that doesn't solve it. As for the doc, I would just call my ob and justify it with they know me better right now and I'm sure could help with this. Gl hun.
