Pregnant after 35

BC after baby

DH and I have been talking about possible birth control methods after delivery.  The pill makes me wonky and condoms irritate my vag.  For about 2 seconds I thought about getting my tubes tied but that's just too permanent for me.  I have done the diaphragm before but DH is concerned about reliability since he saw the chart at the OB office.

What are you planning on doing?  Anyone have experience with Mirena?

Thanks ladies!

Re: BC after baby

  • I'm not much help, because I didn't use any bc between #1 and getting pregnant with #2.  After this one, we're done, so I plan to talk to my doctor about getting my tubes tied during my c-section.  Good luck with whatever you choose!

  • I got the mirena about 8 weeks pp. I bled/spotted lightly for another 6 to 8 weeks which sucked. Now I am not sure if I am having periods, so that is nice. Ever now and then the spotting starts up again so I think that is a pseudo period. Other than the initial spotting, it has been great!

  • I would think that if the pill makes you wonky, Mirena would too, it's basically the same hormones just released into your body differently.

  • You could always look into an IUD without hormones. That's my plan as I'm not a fan of the pill.

I was wondering about that actually.

  • I used the Mirena. I actually stopped having periods after having it in a few months. I wasn't a fan of the "Mirena crash" HEAVY, long periods, inconsistent cycles, mild depression and anxiety I went through after I got it out although it doesn't happen to everyone. My friend had none of those reactions after getting hers out. Other than that, I liked it.

This isn't exactly the case since mirena is releasing far less hormone from what I gather. In any case I feel the effects if the pill far more than mirena. I'd be in the paragard if it weren't for my endo. The mirena helps keep my endo from growing more.

  • We are done after this one, so I will be looking into something permanent, so I am not of much help to you.
