Callen

How would you pronounce this name? I posted a week or so ago about the spelling of this name, we were trying to decide on a boy name and like Callen/Callan. We really love this name for a boy but I'm worried people would pronounce it like Colin or Call-en, instead of Cal-len. Although I prefer the spelling with an e, do you think people would be more likely to pronounce Callan correctly?

Re: Callen

  • When I saw it, I pronounced it Cal-len ... mostly because it has "allen" after the "C"

However, I can see how people would default to Call-en.

  • I saw the post a week ago and was confused about the pronunciation. I didn't see anyone else ask about it though so I thought that I must have been in the minority. I still don't know how I would immediately pronounce it. It's one of those names that I have to think about and would have difficulties saying every time.

  • Either cal len or kai len is how I'd say it.

Sorry, auto correct won't keep hyphens in so the space is a hyphen.

  • This is DS's name, spelled Callen. We have only had one person pronounce it call/in in almost 2 years. When he was born we explained it as Allen with a C or Calvin without a V and people seemed to get it right away, we didn't really have to explain it much tho. We have more people misspell it than mispronounce it.

I was the poster that started a thread on the name Macallen. One poster mentioned that they preferred Callen. I pronounce it Cal-len.

  • I pronounced it correctly. As others have stated, it looks like Allen with a "C." I prefer it spelled Callen. Callan looks more feminine to me for some reason...I think because it reminds me of Calla. I don't think spelling it that way would help people with pronunciation anyway.
  • CalLen. I have a nephew with this name no one has said it wrong.
