opinion- what color should the crib and changing table be?

So, me and my DH live in a 1 bedroom condo (it sucks with the baby on the way, but our house has been up for sale since June, and no offers yet) anyway.. we need to share our room with the baby. Our dresser is a honey/natural color, and our bed side tables are black. I have no clue what color the baby's crib or changing table should be. I love the thought of darker; because it would go well with our side tables, lights and bed set. But, i'm also scared that it'll make the room too dark. would love to hear opinions. thanks!

  • I would just go with whatever you like and not worry about it matching your furniture b/c hopefully, eventually, it won't have to match your furniture, right?

    I guess I'm not one to advise on nursery furniture though...I just realized that our nursery has an oak crib, a natural changing table, a cherry armoire and a white nightstand!

  • I also prefer darker colors, but I would probably choose a crib to match the dresser because that is what pops out at me when I look at your room. I think that you don't notice the nightstands as much as the large dresser.
  • I think you could go with a medium like your dresser or a dark like your bed tables. The contrast of your lighter walls are going to pop whichever wood you choose and help to not make it feel dark. Luckily you are working with light paint and light carpet plus it looks like you get a lot if natural light. I think you'd be fine with both.

  • I like the dark wood as well. I agree that when I look at the picture, the dresser is what jumps out at me so I would try to match that.

  • I agree w/ PP. buy what you like and don't worry about matching.
  • Either way, I wouldn't worry about making the room too dark. My whole house is basically cherry wood colors but because our walls aren't dark, it doesn't look small or dark at all!

    Any don't worry about being in a one bedroom. Even if you had 2 beds, baby would probably sleep with you in the beginning anyways so this just makes it that much easier ;

    This. I would buy what you like, regardless of whether it matches or not.

  • If your house is for sale, and you might be moving, I would just chose what you would like in a nursery, since you may have one. As long as you love it, it doesn't matter that it matches your bedroom furniture or not.

  • My living situation isn't ideal as bf and I are currently living in his parents basement in one large room that acts as bedroom (one side) and living room (other side). There is a very good chance we'll still be here for awhile after baby is born. We decided to buy nursery furniture we want and not care if it matches since everything is mis-matchy anyway. For our son we are getting a french vanilla "cream" colored crib and a blue dresser for his clothes and to use as a changing table.
  • I like espresso colored furniture, but I don't think it really matters. It looks like you have plenty of light in the room, so I don't think you have to worry about it being too dark.
