For those of you who don't know my story, we're recovering from a crappy cycle that was cancelled but left us with three "fair" quality embryos on ice. We now want to go to a different clinic.
What I'm wondering, though, is what you would do in terms of another fresh cycle versus an FET. Should we skip ahead, cut our losses from the last cycle--which didn't seem to produce high-quality embryos--and try again with something closer to the long protocol which seemed to work better for us? Or use the embryos we already have for an FET with a new RE?
We could save the embryos we have either for a later FET cycle that might combine some that we got from this fresh cycle, if there are frosties. We have three on ice and I won't transfer three even if they're not of good quality b/c I want to avoid the chance of triplets--and therefore, reducing--at all costs. (I know at this point the chance of triplets is so remote as to be almost laughable but it's such a concern that I want to do whatever I can to avoid it.)
I almost feel like there's no point in leaving our current clinic to do an FET somewhere else. I mean, in terms of protocols for FETs, is there even much of a difference from one RE to the next? FET cycles seem so simple.
This post has been very interesting for me to write but I'm sure not as interesting for you to read, so I appreciate any advice you ladies have. FET? Fresh cycle? Never wear white after Labor Day? I'll take it all.
Re: Good ole fashioned WWYD?
If cost isn't a concern, I'd go with a fresh cycle with new RE. My reason would be to try to get better quality embryos and get PG quicker than if there was a failed FET between cycles. The 3 fair ones would be my "backup plan". I'm not familiar with FET cycles, but I think the trust issue would be too much to stay with the current RE. Someone will probably have more insight than me, but that's my $.02!

If cost was not an issue, I would probably do a fresh cycle. As far as protocols for a FET, I think you are correct in that there is not much of a difference. That being said, I think there is a difference in the ability of the dr putting the embryos back. I can tell you that my 1st IVF was almost a guaranteed failure because the dr was not very skilled in ET. Even at my current clinic, they rank every dr on the transfers they do and the success rates because as my nurse put it "any dr can do the ER, it takes the real skill for the ET" - I firmly believe this.
Other than that, I think the suggestion from Scuba about not eating yellow snow is in consensus.

OK! No yellow snow it is!
Thanks, ladies. I didn't know that they would charge a lot to move the frozen embryos, that's definitely something to keep in mind.
I think we're leaning toward another fresh cycle but I'm not 100 percent sold on that, either. Cost isn't our biggest concern but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant, either. An FET would definitely be cheaper.
I was in a similar situation with this cycle... We had one embie left and were definitely going to get a second opinion if not switch clinics entirely. I wanted to use all the embies from our first IVF before moving on, but I'm a little OCD about finishing one thing before moving onto the next (like finish a book before starting a new one). I'd do one more FET... you might have one that doesn't survive thaw, esp if the quality isn't that good. But that's just me
ETA: I'd have to also agree that yellow snow is something to avoid
Positive for HLA-B27, I'm a mutant

This yellow snow advice is really popular. I think I'm going to have to look into it.
And thanks! We'll probably find out how much it would cost to move the embies, then decide if the price is worth it. If it's not, I think we'll wind up doing one last FET w/the doc I don't like or going straight to a fresh cycle with someone else (my preference).
