Toddlers: 24 Months+

Lurker with a Potty Training Q...

Hi all!

My DD (a bit over 2.5) was doing well with potty training: wore pull-ups but rarely had an accident, was waking up dry and was extremely excited to go to the potty (only liked to sit in regular toilet w/o a toddler ring)...

For whatever reason (not sure what) she no longer wants to go! She's back in diapers bc she says Potty! but by then she's peed on herself and when i say, let's go Potty! she says NO, NO and even changing her out of the diaper is a struggle.

I'm frustrated because she seemed to have been doing so well and all of a sudden we are back to square one...

Backstory: she goes to my inlaws 3 days a week and to my aunt's 1 day a week...the other days she's with either me or DH.

  • my son goes back and forth. He's doing great in underwear right now but could regress eventually. He uses the potty better at daycare and will even scream sometimes if we try to make him go at home. Does she do this at IL's house and Aunt's house too? also, seeing other children do it helps too. Hang in there...its so hard!

  • Yeah, she is doing the same everywhere...oh and the temper tantrums now are colossal...she's always been sweet and I took pride in how well she behaved/listen and now it's almost like she's somebody else! lol

I'm hoping it's a stage and not that i'm doing something wrong, being pregnant and hormonal I'm feeling extra guilty for having to drop her off to be watched by someone other than me while I have to work and I know that I'm not as active with her as I was before being pregnant Sad

  • I can almost guarantee its because you are pregnant. I just wrote about this earlier today. DD1 was totally into PT when she was about 18 months. Peeing and pooping on the toilet and having fun. Then, when she realized there was another baby, and she had diapers, DD1 wanted to pee and poop in a diaper. Now, DD2 9.5 months, and we are just getting her PT for good. Only a pull up at night. Expect some regressing as they want to be the baby for a little longer. It will happen eventually, the PT I mean. Its not your fault, so don't feel guilty. It is what it is.
