Birthday Party

Wondering what most people do for a 1 year olds birthday party. If you are going to invite your friends with kids do you have that party and then a seperate one with family or just one party? And what do you do at it since a 1 year old is obviously not old enough to know how to play games and things? I have only taken my son to one of these parties but we arrived late so I don't know what they did during the main portion of it. Just looking for ideas on what to do!

Re: Birthday Party

  • We discussed this on the March 2012 board. We mostly discussed themes.

I think we will invite a few close friends (our family is pretty far away). We plan to make a few cakes (one "smash" cake for fun). We are going to keep it pretty simple.

  • We are just having one party and inviting all close friends and family.  It's going to be quite a bit of people since my family is HUGE but I think it's easier to just throw one party then do two parties.  I'll only have to clean the house once, prepare food once, etc.  I can't imagine having two parties even if they are both small.

Every first birthday party I have ever been to there has not been games.  The kids just played with each other while the babies got passed around from adult to adult.  The adults had a drink and socialized.  I don't think you need to worry about planning specific games or activities.

  • We are having a house party with almost 50 people (friends and family).  I live in a rowhouse, so we are doing an open house type thing from 1-7.  So people can come by when they want and leave when they want.  The house is going to be really crowded, thats why we are doing it like this.
