XP: What should I consider purchasing? Opinions please!!

I'm considering purchasing something to try to help LO sleep better at night.  She has the capability of sleeping long stretches, but doesn't do it on her own.  For example, last night she slept for 5 hours 40 minutes, but she was on my chest (and we were both on the couch).  I'm happy to have those (almost) 6 hours of sleep for myself, but I don't want her to HAVE to sleep on me.

She will be 5 weeks old on Sunday, so I'm not sure if there's something I could purchase that would actually be worth the money (i.e., something I could use for longer than a few weeks).  I don't plan on moving her to the crib for awhile.

Currently, we have a beautiful Jenny Lind cradle (which I would LOVE for her to sleep in).  She naps fairly well in it (with the mattress inclined and blankets rolled around her - I think she just wants to feel snuggled), but she wakes up within 15 minutes if I try to put her in it at night.  Most of the time she sleeps in this fisher price rocker (sorry not clicky):

The problem with this is that it's a bit more inclined than I would like, and since she's swaddled at night, she can't be buckled into it.  She's starting to get a little too heavy which is making her slide down it at night.

Soooo... I'm considering purchasing one of the following: 1) fisher price rock n play, 2) leachco podster, or 3) a baby lounge or snuggle nest (all of these are items I found on babies r us website).

I know a lot of people swear by the RNP, but how long can I expect to get use out of it?  The benefit of the last two items is that I could possibly just put them inside the cradle, rather than having a whole extra piece of baby gear in the room.  What do you think?  Any other items you have found that helped LO sleep better?  I'm open to suggestions!  Thanks for reading (sorry it got so long)!

  • We have a rock and play and that's where DD sleeps. If she is layed flat in the bassinet she throws up. We went to the pedi yesterday for her one month check up and I asked if it's an issue, and she said it's actually better for them to sleep slightly inclined. Although I do not swaddle her regularly, I have and put her in there with no buckles and she was fine.

  • DS has slept in a Leachco podster since the first night home - it's been a lifesaver (or, at least, a sanity saver). We put it in his bassinet at night and put it on the couch during the day so he can be in the room with us. I have not tried the other two options but the podster has been great for us.
