Hello all! I can't believe my baby is old enough to be in the 6-9 month range...I feel like he was born 2 weeks ago!! ) I've mostly "hung out" in my birth month board and the breast feeding board, but I'm branching out, so to speak. ...so hi!!
)
We just introduced solids at 6 months. So far he's had avocado, bananas, and carrots. Tomorrow is sweet potatoes. Are there any recommendations for which foods to start next? Any that your LO really enjoys?
Re: New girl...and a question about baby food...
We haven't been very innovative in the solids department---we've just been mixing the Gerber Organics with Earths' Best oatmeal, three meals a day.
Others that Gerber Organics had as "stage one" foods (ie: what I would guess are "safe bets" for first foods to suggest) were: pears, peas, apples and prunes.
Once he had those down, we went to stage two, which includes mixtures of bananas or pears and raspberry and mixtures of several vegetables together.
My LO will seriously eat anything we give him...but he likes pears and bananas the best:)
Welcome! I make the baby food and this is what we've done so far:
Bananas (she loves them, so I mix those with other fruits like blueberries)
sweet potatoes (also a great base bc they mix really well with other foods, so I'll throw is some peas and leftover chicken)
carrots
pears (tend to be rather explosive for DD2, so I will mix it with some applesauce)
whole milk yogurt
any combo of what we have leftover, as long as it's not highly allergenic
Little man loves pears, blueberries, green beans, and sweet potato

love this website!
Thanks everyone! Can't wait to see how he likes sweet potatoes today!

Love this! Thank you!
Welcome!
DD just turned 9 months, I can't believe it either!!
I make all of DD's food myself so I haven't branched out too far as far as mixing things. Bananas and sweet potatoes seem to be the big winners, zucchini and summer squash can both get pretty watery when they're pureed so she wasn't thrilled with them, but ate them when I mixed them with something else.
She really likes banana and avocado together (aka- bananacado)
Try steaming some sweet peas for him, DD like peas a lot and they're a thicker puree so she's learning to chew.
I just made a little chicken soup for her and she LOVES it.
1 raw (boneless/skinless) chicken breast, cut into pieces
1 carrot (peeled/diced)
1 oz broccoli florets
1/2 cup water
Boil everything together until the chicken is cooked through and puree - make sure you keep the liquid, it's a yummy chicken stock full of vitamins.
Are you making your own?
Try butternut squash. Roast it in the oven and you and your DH can have half for dinner and there will still be plenty left to freeze for baby food. It's kinda sweet so a lot of babies like it and it's nutritious too.
Pears and apples are also popular early foods.
