Our Disney World Experience...

I have one word to sum it up: HORRIBLE!

We thought it would be a good idea to take DD to Disney since she understands characters and rides and loves all things Disney.  We live about an hour and a half away, but we wanted the full experience, so we stayed at a Disney hotel as well since my DH or I haven't been in over 15 years.

Oh, and before we get started, I will say DS was an angel.  He was so good and just went along for the ride.

We got their around 10 and by that time EVERYTHING had at least a 45 min wait, some of the rides even had a 200 minute wait.  I could not believe it! I knew it was Disney and I knew it would be busy...but I did not expect it to be a complete madhouse on a Wednesday.   Even lines to meet a character were over 45 minutes, some of the more popular characters were a 1 hour wait.

When it was time to eat we had to search high and low for somewhere to sit.  We had to eat one meal on the ground!

DD did not understand waiting in lines, and I do not blame here.  We tried one thing that was only a 20 min wait when we first got there, and she screamed so loud waiting in line that we had to leave.
We got fast passes for two rides, but by the time we were able to get another one at 1 pm, they were reserving the times for 9 pm. We got to ride the little mermaid new ride, dumbo, and the carasouel of progress (at least it put the kids to sleep).  So basically we paid $100 a ride!

Finally, we got both kids asleep so we just sat down on the floor and realized what a freaking waste of $500 the trip had been.

When it was time to leave it started raining.  We stayed at a Disney hotel so we used their transportation system.  We had to take a monorail to get to the bus...well the bus was late (we waited 40 min), we then got on the bus and the bus driver GOT LOST and it took over 30 min to get from Disney parking to a Disney hotel.    How does a Disney driver get lost?!?!?!

Honestly, this just proved to us why we are taking an adult only vacation to an adult only resort in March because this was absolutely disastrous.

Re: Our Disney World Experience...

  • Sorry you had such a bad experience :( We have taken DD twice now... once at 2 and once at almost 3.5. The 2nd trip was much better since she understood she had to wait if she wanted to ride the rides. We also went in October the 2nd time so it wasn't as busy (I work at a school so we usually have to go when everyone else does, at school break time, but I was still on mat leave). The other thing that has helped us is that we go with my brothers and my brother's gf, so there are also other people to distract DD. She did have a few meltdowns, but for the most part understood that if she wanted to see the characters/ride rides/get a treat, she had to behave. I'm pretty sure we will be going back this summer, since we are huge disney fans :) Don't give up on Disney, maybe just wait awhile to go back!

  • I'm sorry but other then the driver getting lost none of this is Disney's fault.

Not their fault I guess...but still a bad experience.
Then again it is their fault that they are so greedy they let too many people in their parks that lines have 200 min waits lol

  • Yeah I wouldn't go to Disney around Xmas. I'm pretty sure it's their busiest time of year. Last time I went [with my family at 19] was the week between Xmas and New Years. It was crazy packed. We will take DD in a few years but probably will go when kids are in school.

  • I have a random week off work in Feb and that's when we'll be going.  Pretty excited too!  Hopefully everyone is just at the right age for it to work out!  I'm an educator so I'm usually confined to school breaks that everyone has, but our school is trying a weird calendar with a week off every 6 weeks so we have some unorthodox time where we can get away with a less crowded Disney.

  • I am so sorry you had such a terrible experience.  We went on Dec. 9-11 and had the complete opposite experience.  We didn't wait in line for anything.  I have heard that Christmas is the absolute worst time to go, but that November and the first two weeks in december are their lowest admissions statistics.  My DH had never been and either had my kids.  Such a bummer about the wasted money, that place is a fortune:(

  • ::sad face:: I love Disney. We have passes and stay far away from there from thanksgiving to New Years. I heard they had to close the magic kingdom down to any more guests a few days ago.

I live an hour north of Disney. Which direction are you?

I am near Tampa.  I looked online at a chart that showed peak times and right after new years looked pretty low.  Maybe the chart was boogus! HA HA.

  • Sorry to hear it Sad  Sounds like you deserve an adults only vacation soon!

  • I agree with kitchen. Because of the timing of Christmas this year, lots of kids are still out of school. Normally kids here start back around the 2nd or 3rd so that's why the charts look okay for past years. Always check the school calendar!
