S/O maids

It seems like a few of the moms here have hired a cleaning service or have a magical cleaning fairy named _____ Big Smile ! I have a few questions:

1. When did you know or admitted you needed the help?

2. Do they use your cleaning products?

3. What is the average rate in your area? How many "fairies" do you have at once?

Re: S/O maids

  • I decided to treat myself after maternity leave was over and I went back to work. The last thing I wanted to do when I got home was vacuum and clean the bathroom so I hired my magical cleaning fairy, Audrey.

She uses her own stuff, and she comes every other Friday. It's $50 a visit, so $100 a month. I would've paid double, it's worth every penny! Of course, the house is only truly clean from the time she leaves until the time we get home that evening. lol

  • I have been wondering this, too! My husband and I just agreed that we would like someone to come occasionally, because we just aren't getting much cleaning done lately. I have no idea what it would cost...

  • I've had one for a long time (different people though). Cleaning is just not a priority for us, and it's not how we want to spend our free time.

Yes, she uses our products.  I've had others who brought their own though.

We pay $70/visit, very low cost of living area, 2400 finished sq.ft. She comes every other week.  I have a clean house today!

  • We decided to get a service shortly after Eli was born. I just didn't want to spend my time with him cleaning when I wasn't working. DH stays at home, and he is great at keeping the place straightened, doing dishes everyday, etc...but it's difficult to do the real cleaning with a little one as you all know!  He is also a musician so nap times are his time to work on music.

We use a service called Maid Brigade and they use their own products. I searched for one that would use all natural products, and they do. I do ask them to use my Dyson though because they have a pretty crappy vacuum and we have three pets!

My service is more than everyone else's, but I have shopped around and it is competitive for the Dallas area. $134 and there are two people who come every other week. Our house is about 2500 square feet. They also give me a little comment card and if anything is not up to par, they will make sure it's better the next time. Overall, I am very happy with it.

  • A year or so before DD was born I was working full time and going to school full time. I needed help and luckily we could afford it. We pay $75 for every two weeks. She uses our cleaning supplies but buys more as needed and just leaves me a receipt to be reimbursed. She used to just be her but has gotten so busy she now brings a helper. I seriously love her, she's a tiny Hispanic women who kicks my houses butt!! She is also really comfortable and good with my dogs which if course was uber important to me. I have a (normally) well behaved very large golden that immediately jumped on her and put his two front paws right on her shoulders and gave her a hug. I was mortified- she laughed. I knew she was the one, :)

  • DH and I hired our fairy when we both worked full time, and didn't want to spend our only free "together time" scrubbing bath tubs and floors. We could afford it, so we did it. After the baby was born we stopped her service since I would be a SAHM... Haha... Lets just say we rehired her two months later.

Our fairy uses our cleaning products; when we run out, she leaves a note with what we need. She does however, use her own vacuum. I hate this, but they don't want to risk breaking ours.

Originally we had her cleaning our master bath/bedroom, and the entire first floor. We had three vacant guest rooms that were essentially empty. She charged 85. After the baby was born, I added on cleaning the nursery and the guest bath, so we pay 100 now, i think 3200squ ft.

  • I hired a cleaning service when I went back to work after maternity leave.  I pay $85 every two weeks for two people to clean.  Although, since I don't write the check directly to the leadies who do the cleaning, I also tip them, so I end up paying $105 every two weeks.  They use my cleaning products but their own vacuum.  I live in Atlanta.

  • Gosh I want to have a cleaning fairy. H isn't trusting enough to have someone here alone though.
