For mobile users: "AW: Switched from OB to CNM at 26w4d! What a difference!"
A few weeks ago, I posted here quite upset after my 24-week appointment with my OB. She refused my request for delayed cord clamping (which has a good bit of evidence to support it, BTW) with the stupid, lame, and nonsensical "explanation" that in her experience, it caused anemia (yes, she actually said this) and added that I would just have to trust her on this. Yeh, right...
So today I saw my new CNM for the first time, and what a difference!! The whole vibe is different when you're using someone's first name (I asked her how she wanted to be addressed and she said, "Just call me Stephanie!"), and I felt like there was a real back-and-forth to our conversation. Her office even has this special group pregnancy program where women who are due in the same month come in every two weeks and get the medical stuff (fundal measurements, listening to heart tones, etc.) taken care of one after the other, and then we have a discussion group with a topic. I've never heard of such a social approach to prenatal medical care before, but I find it intriguing. The next meeting for April 2013 moms is next Wednesday, so I went ahead and signed up to see how I like it. With me, there will be ten of us. I really like the idea of having a real-life BMB!
Anyway, I just wanted to post this to encourage others who might be on the fence...if you're with an OB and starting to have misgivings about how your birth may go, JUMP!! 27 weeks is not too late. I feel like I am much more likely to end up with the natural birth I want now that my new care provider and I are really on the same page.

you should definitely share your experience on the other boards in case any if those women are on the fence...especially 1st tri since they are just starting out...
the number of women who don't know a lot about other options that are out there is crazy because we are always taught that babies are born in a hospital with an OB... ignorance and fear are the biggest problems
