Gas!

LO is having so much gas she's waking herself up from her naps and can't settle back down easily. Aside from the obvious burping and also doing the bending/rocking motion to help gas move, any other tips? TIA!

Re: Gas!

  • I use Gripe water when I have tried everything else. And then massage his tummy in a clockwise motion. It relaxes him so he can pass the gas.

  • I use Gripe water as well. If you're BF your foremilk might be making LO gassy. That was the case with me. I had a foremilk / hindmilk imbalance. My foremilk was coming in much more than my hindmilk which was causing LO to be in pain with gas. That was my issue not saying it's yours but it's something to think about. I did some research on the imbalance and it helped. Gripe water does work though! I went from using Mylicon which did NOTHING to Gripe water which helps LO release his gas.

  • Thanks ladies for your tips! I think I've been selfish with my BF sessions by switching over prematurely in hopes of avoiding plugged ducts and LO has been getting more fore milk than hind milk. I'll get on the lecithin train and get back to not switching too soon

  • my LO is so gassy. Sadly neither gripe water nor simithecone worked for us (she . We have tried the probiotic Biogaia...which might be working. Basically she poops yogurt-smelling poops now and she certainly passes more gas.

We cut the formula out and that seems to have helped. She was almost immediately less gassy. We moved to a 1-2 hour feeding schedule for a few days - breast milk only 10 min or 1-2 oz feeds- and those were the best 4 days for LO....not so great on the sleep side for DH and I, but her gas eased up.

...now if the colic would just go away, we'd be set.

  • ooo..I also sing Queen's "bicycle" when we bicycle LO. It's, like, made for infant gas release.
  • I massage LO's tummy when I am giving him a bottle.  That way he is "distracted". It seems to work he's able to break wind when I do it.
