Where does your mobile baby nap?

If you cosleep, where does your mobile baby nap? Our 8 month old currently sleeps with us in our high bed. I can only get her to nap in my arms or our bed (if I'm lucky). If she naps in our bed, then I put body pillows on either side of her and watch her on the video monitor the entire time. I have to constantly glance at the monitor, bc I'm afraid she will wake up and roll off the bed. It is not safe and it makes it hard to get anything done. I need some suggestions. So, where does your cosleeping baby safely nap?

Re: Where does your mobile baby nap?

  • Could you move her to a PNP or crib after she falls asleep? Or, could you do a floor bed and get her to fall asleep down there so if she falls it isn't an issue?

  • We dont' co sleep but for a while the only way to get her to nap was in our bed. As soon as she started to crawl we started to teach her to get off of the bed...she picked up on this super fast! She would nap in our bed with a body pillow on one side and a bed rail on the other side. If she woke up and I wasn't there she's be sufficiently awake to get off the bed if needed. BUT our bed is probably just over a foot off of the ground.

Now she has a floor bed in her room and LOVES it! She loves being able to control when she gets in her bed at night :)

  • DS naps in our bed, and we too taught him how to crawl off as soon as he could crawl. You have to show them that they must scoot around and hang their feet off, then crawl backwards slowly until their feet touch the ground. DS became quite skilled at this super fast, and one of his favorite games at bedtime was to crawl off and be chased and caught by DH.

This is much more easily accomplished if your mattresses are on the floor, so I would recommend ditching your bed frame for the time being.

  • This is not ideal for pretty much anyone, but DS naps on my lap. I need to transition him to his crib for naps soon.

  • She is the lightest sleeper ever, so moving her is not an option. Plus, the second her head hits the crib she wakes up. I guess we will have to look into putting our mattress closer to the ground, since it is nearly 3 ft high. She is not crawling yet, so I really don't think I could teach her to get down. We are also thinking about moving her crib to our room to see if that would help her transition easier. Sleep is a huge challenge in our house! I will doing anything to get her in her crib, but CIO. Unfortunately, nothing else is working.
  • Two months ago I could have wrote this same post about my little man!

In our case, we needed to keep our high bed frame because our old home has small rooms with no cupboard space and not enough room for a dresser. As a pp mentioned, I would often let him nap on me, or if I needed to get stuff done I would try moving him to a crib; more often than not, he would wake up and I would start over. Now it is much easier moving him; however I am not sure if it is because of always trying to move him, or if it is something else. Good luck!

  • Floor bed all the way. It's awesome for sidelying bf to sleep as well and no waking up from transferring to crib after LO is asleep.
