Bare Minerals, Reviews?

I am thinking about trying out Bare Minerals. I need a new makeup and I am typically not the type to wear a lot of makeup. I don't like liquid foundations. I use 5 items daily: creamy concealer for acne scars and blemishes, a pressed powder, eyeliner, mascara and a bronzer.

I have combination skin and I still get good sized pimples (im only 23) every now and then (mainly period week).

Is this worth the money and does it give good coverage?

  • I tried it and liked it well enough, though it was kind of messy to apply and it made my face feel dry. Then after a few days I noticed that my face was getting itchy, especially when I was sweating, and my face started breaking out in a rash. Turns out I'm allergic to one of the ingredients in it and after looking into it, a lot of other people are too. My skin is ridiculously sensitive though so hopefully you won't have the same experience. The rash took almost a month to clear up. Never again!

Now I use an "airbrush" foundation from Classified Cosmetics and I lurrrve it. The coverage is amazing and it looks really natural.

  • I love Bare Minerals. However, if you don't know how to do it, it can look really bad. Like old church lady bad.

Go to the Bare Essentials store if your mall has one, because if you buy product they will give you a free lesson. Neimann Marcus and Bloomingdales do the same. I'm sure other department stores do the same thing.

ETA: They make a primer if you have dry or combo skin. It completely made the line for me.

  • I love it. I too hardly wear makeup: liquid concealer for the stubborn spots, bare minerals foundation, bisque (a concealer of sorts), and blush. I use an astringent and then a moisturizer before makeup and haven't had any problems with dryness. It gives pretty good coverage and in the summer my freckles still show through which I really like

  • I LOVE bareMinerals!  I think it's worth the money.  I hardly ever wear make-up, so it's perfect for my skin!
  • Love it! I have been using it for 2 years now and will never go back to liquid foundation. It feels so light and my skin is so much better than it used to be (yucky pores, breakouts, when I was on liquid foundation).

I find that my jar of bare minerals lasts for around 2 months, and I remember buying the liquid crap more often than that (estimating around once a month, I used to use Revlon Colorstay) so I think it ended up being around the same price if you figure that it lasts longer.

Side note - I never put it on wearing whatever clothes I am wearing out, because of the "dust" that lands on my chest when I apply. My robe gets it! That's my only beef with it.

    :)

  • I have been using bare minerals for 4 years, I love it. I also have combo skin with breakouts during my period. I use their regular powder concealer to cover old acne scars and new breakouts (dont waste your time on their "acne concealer"). The Prime Time primer makes the whole line worth it, I use it in place of my moisturizer on days I wear make up. They have a start up box that you can try out, and I agree go to the store and have someone teach you how to use it, if you have an ULTA near you they are great and every now and then you get a 20% off coupon you can use to buy it.
