My little one was born the day after christmas-
I woke up 4:30 am with contractions (I thought it was bowel movement cramps at first, lol!) I rested & tried to relax until my dr's office opened, I had an apt scheduled that day & asked them to come in early- The dr said I was only dilated to 3 but with contractions being at 7 mins apart by then, & steady since I woke up- He was pretty sure it was the real deal. Sent me to labor & delivery at the hospital for monitoring- I told him I didn't want to go yet & that I wanted to labor at home as long as possible- He said to just go in & let them monitor for 1 hr, to make sure baby was tolerating the contractions & then I could go home if everything was ok-
So baby was handling early labor well, & I got to go home to labor- I spent the day snacking & napping between contractions... When they got to be 4 min apart, we went in to the hospital & they admitted me-
The nurse asked what my pain management plan was & birth plan & I told her so she said she was cool with that & she wouldn't offer anything, but made sure I knew that IF I changed my mind, its up to me to let her know because she wasn't going to mention meds at all. She was amazing at coaching me through the contractions when I lost focus & never offered any meds.
During transition I freaked out & lost my cool- asked for meds, but I had passed 8 cm & she was explaining she couldn't give me anything because it was too late (Now I'm happy for that but then I wasn't enjoying it lol )
I had back labor the whole time, he came out face down... It was Painful! My water broke naturally just as I passed 8 cm- and instantly contractions were strong & right on top of each other & I felt him coming... I told the nurse- she had them page the dr & told me that at that point whenever I felt the need to push, to go ahead & not fight it.. I pushed for almost 40 mins & baby was born healthy & screaming The only thing that didn't go as planned was the need for an episiotomy- it was a small one with only a few stitches & my coach looked when dr said he was going to do it & agreed that I was about to tear in 3 places on top & 2 places on bottom..
I did loose my cool/focus etc which I was disapointed in- the pain and my 'plan' didn't work together lol... but the nurses/dr/and my friends were able to coach me through it while I was forgetting my focusing techniques and forgetting to breath and forgetting how to push correctly & stay calm
they put him on my chest immediately & I got to cuddle him for the first hr & half before they gave him a bath/weighed him/etc.
They didn't give me any problems with my choices about circumcision, vaccinating, etc...
Overall it was a good experience for being a hospital birth, the nurses & dr were all understanding & complying & didn't push for anything once they knew I wanted to have no inductions/interventions/medications..
thanks for letting me share my story!
