Worst luck ever (TMI)

So, I just started my new job yesterday. For the last weeks I've been really nervous about it. Not just because its unfamiliar work, but because I'm notorious for getting sick at inopportune times. Well, just as I'd feared, I'm home today on what should have been my second day at the new job, and I'm stuck in the bathroom with a bucket in my lap. I think I caught a norovirus because it came on so suddenly and because I'm having violent, VIOLENT explosions from both ends. I can't believe this. I've worked for my new boss for exactly 1 day, and I have to call and tell her I'm barfing and $hitting my brains out. Awesome.

Any good remedies or advice?

  • No good remedy advice except drink lots of fluids so you don't get dehydrated! The same thing happened to me years ago, I was sick on day three of work. Not fun at all! Hope it passes soon!

  • Drink lots of fluids. If it is Norovirus you should be over it within 24 hours. Don't bother to eat anything for at least 12 hours as it will just make you puke more. Also, be sure to wipe everything with a 10% bleach solution as the virus can survive on surfaces for a relatively long time. We had that rip through our household last year. My parent's came to visit 2 days after we had recovered and they ended up with the virus 48 hours later. I believe that virus can be shed for up to 2 weeks after the acute phase has passed.

I think I've passed the worst of it. The north end isn't giving me trouble anymore, so re-hydration has commenced. I even held down a little yogurt. I had this last year too and ended up needing IV fluids. I would have probably gone to the ER last night if we'd had someone to watch E or if I thought there was a change that I could drive there myself.

I've got my bleach wipes. I'm hoping that a thick coat of disinfectant will keep DH and E from catching this!

Glad you are holding down fluids and some yogurt. I hope you are feeling better very soon and YH and E don't get it too.

As an aside, did you know that Clorox Wipes don't have bleach in them? I think they should do consumers a favor and change the name of the wipes since the name Clorox is associated with their bleach. Confused

  • Such a bummer. I'm glad your new boss is understanding, though. Feel better soon.
