Sitting up?

Whose 5 month old is NOT sitting up yet?  I see all the pics of everyone's LOs sitting up.  Mine isn't even close.  I know I shouldn't worry, but I can't help it.  He does little crunches and can pull up when offered a hand to help, but can't sit up on his own.

Anyone else in the same boat?   What about rolling?  We haven't done that either  but a few times.  Then we stopped.

  • My more than 6 month old isn't sitting up on his own either...he's close, but not there yet. Our little guys will do it when they're ready! :o) I heard someone say "Have you ever met an adult that couldn't sit up?" ...sometimes that helps me in all kinds of situations with little man

Very true.  I have heard that before.  I think I have even told my hubby that at other times.  Thanks for the reminder :)  My LO is not so little, so I think his gigantic melon may be harder to manuver compared to LOs that are more normally sized.

  • Having twins has really showed me how each baby develops differently.  DD sits up unassisted really well (though still topples over once in a while).  DS can sit up but topples over more easily and will start to slump forward after a few minutes. He also has the bigger head, is longer and has less body fat in comparison to DD. So that could be the difference. They will be 6 months in 10 days.  I find placing a boppy around them really helps to stabilize them and help soften the fall if they do topple over.
  • We are not sitting up either.  I will sit her up with the boppy around her, but she still wants to lean over and fold herself in half.  She rolls from her back to her belly, but doesn't roll from belly to back very often.  If I sit her up by herself with nothing to support her she goes right over, and is NO WHERE near being able to get herself into a sitting position.  Isn't getting up on hands and knees either.

  • She has only "sit up" for a few seconds.  I think it will be awhile before she is able to for more than that.

Rolling she can do, but she doesn't like to.  I will find her on her belly in her crib every morning though.

  • MY LO can only put herself in the sitting position if she is reclining on the nursing pillow.  She can't do it without help and I don't think she'll be able to for a while.

She was rolling a lot between 4.5 months to 5 months and then one day she just stopped doing it.  She lost interest, I guess.  She only rolled from her back to her belly and only rolled to the left.  She rolled in slow-mo.

  • I was going to write a post about this last night. Graham doesn't sit up unassisted yet either, and he will be 6 months next week. I keep reminding myself that he was a preemie, but it sure it hard sometimes seeing other babies his age hit their milestones before him! Glad to see that he doesn't seem too behind though.

  • Frankie's just now starting to get the hang of it but only for maybe a minute or two then he topples over.

  • my LO is 6 months in a week and he can't sit up. He lasts maybe 3 seconds max and then face plants or falls to the side or throws himself backwards.

  • Claire is sitting up but it's still early. She tends to hit physical milestones early but she's also teeny tiny (13 lbs at 5.5 months). Don't worry...every baby will hit some milestones early, some on time, and some late. They're just averages :) 5 months is early to be sitting up so I wouldn't worry just yet.
