My other unpopular opinion? I hate "grats" ... Seriously, if you can't take the time to tell someone "Congratulations!" why are you even responding? Ha.
Ugg. Yes. I pretty much hate shortened words. Especially Presh. It's like nails on a chalkboard. Grats is working its way up there.
My UO - I sometimes hate the Bump (but still come on because I need something to distract me from actually working.) I feel like it's just a tool to make sure all pregnant woman are being more cautious and monitoring everything they do and don't do while being pregnant. And the then Bump Community is a whole new story. It's those who are experienced having fun mixed with actual panicky pregnant woman (some really stupid...some not) trying to get real answering, but have to weed through sarcasm and MUD posts. Basically: I have a love/hate relationship with the Bump. I love the community because it's entertaining, but hate it because I find better answers on Google. I absolutely hate the Bumps actual page and articles.
I still paid $105 for my early scans after insurance, so the "free" argument blows my mind.
When I said "free" I was meaning "included". Usually, most OBs have a set charge for your whole pregnancy and delivery (not including hopsital costs of course).
I think a lot of pregnant women use late pregnancy as an excuse to stop participating in any/all social events and activities, and I think it's super lame. I understand being big and uncomfortable, but the chances of going into labor and having your kid on the sidewalk a half an hour later are slim to none. Unless you're ordered to rest by your doc, get out. The 'I'm pregnant so no one should expect me to attend anything they plan within two months of my due date' attitude really irks me.
My unpopular opinion is i cant stand when people have to get reassurance from strangers. Like name opinions, bedding decor, elective ultrasounds, buying things, ect. I'm pretty sure the only opinions that matters to me is my husbands and mine! If you don't like my name choice, to bad. If you think I should spend my money elsewhere, I think that's funny. Too many questions on here looking for reassurance make me wanna puke, go ask your husband! Do what you want, it's your life your decisions.
I kind of agree here. Advice is one thing, and we all need to be reassured every now and then... but are you really going to let a bunch of strangers determine super-important things in your life? Don't get me wrong; you're all great. I just can't picture going home to DH and saying "Yeeeeeah, we're going to have to change the baby's name. Everyone on The Bump said it wasn't their style..."
Do you think that is really happening that often? Sure there are some that struggle with people pleasing and insecurity (and my heart goes out to them), but I think most are just genuinely interested in the experience of others so they can make more informed choices.
Yes I do, but I do agree that some things should be asked. Product information, referrals, parenting advice, nursing advice, I even agree that people should ask about topics like circumcisions and co-sleeping. Its topics like, do you think I should get an elective ultrasound? Even after reading everyone's dislike for them I would still go because that's what my husband and I wanted to do. I wouldn't think twice about what people on the internet say. I've always loved these boards because of the knowledge and the drama. I just have a laugh when people ask these questions.
I think there is a difference between asking for an opinion on what kind of monitor to buy and asking someone if they think you should breastfeed. So while I don't think it's that rampant, it does happen.
I posted my UO on Facebook yesterday, and I'm quite happy that none of my friends "unfriended" me. Here goes:
I think too many awesome female roles have been wasted on Anne Hathaway. She has minimal talent and I think she's homely. Her acting is only slightly better than Kristen Stewart's, and she looks like Don Knotts with brown eyes and a wig. Every movie she's ever been in should be re-filmed with Ashley Judd or Natalie Dormer - both of whom are unbelievably beautiful, are marvelous actresses, and they can both sing. I don't like Anne Hathaway.

People actually do this?!.....that's pretty lame. What are they gonna do when they actually have the kid! lol I understand if they are having multiples or are ordered to bed best, but other than that I definitely agree with you.
I hate when people use the phrase "butt hurt" on here, as in "the newbie got all butt hurt when we made fun of her." It sounds gross to me. It makes me think of like hemorrhoids or anal fissures or something equally gross.
My UO is that I wish they would bring back the 3 day waiting period from the time you create an account until you can post. It would force people to lurk! Then maybe more would understand the nature of these message boards. I think it would keep newbies from getting so butthurt, heh.

Why did they do away with this? It seems like it would help with a lot of the AEs who just want to fluck around. I mean, you must be really dedicated if you wait 3 days to mess with a message board.

While I can appreciate that people struggling with infertility being in a heartbreaking place in their lives, I don't think that gives you the right to treat your friends and family who have been fortunate enough to get pregnant like sh*t. If someone comes to you personally to tell you they are pregnant in a thoughtful way trying to protect your feelings, it's fine to still be upset or frustrated and tell me you need space. I can respect that.
But to talk about me to mutual friends (about how you think I will parent or that I'm too fat to have a healthy pregnancy or how my LO was a whoops), block me on facebook (when I haven't posted ANYTHING about the baby or pregnancy out of respect for YOU) when I have respected your request for space and I haven't attempted contact you and to post a blog (she didn't delete H from facebook, just me, and H showed me the blog) that you don't want to be hurtful to people and alienate them because of your struggles. You're hurtful. You've alienated me. I'm sorry you're going through what you're going through, and I'm praying for you and your H every day, but it is not a free pass to treat me like sh*t.
I apologize for any of you who have struggled while TTC. This is not meant to discount your struggles.
I am so with you on this.... I have a cousin who has been TTC - The night I got married she said that if I got pregnant before her she would be SO jealous, but then, while I was on my HM, she sent me the book TCYF. Well, I read it/followed it, and 1.5 months later, I was pregnant. I didnt tell anyone, but I think she suspected, and started acting funny towards me... like REALLY dramatic, and saying all sorts of crazy stuff (she has been telling ppl she's a single mom, and has 2 foster kids.. WHICH IS A LIE! Hello NUTSO much?)
Anyway... thanksgiving comes along, I spill the beans to my friends and family that I didnt see in person via text (her and I had a big fight, and I didnt want to tell her at all, but decided against it, and chose to tell her in a mass text to my other cousins). She didn't acknowledge the text. Then, she sent me another wacky @ss email, and I told her I didnt want to deal w/ her drama, and asked if she received my text, which said I was pregnant. She again, didn't acknowledge it. She has yet to acknowledge it AT ALL, and everyone else has. At Christmas my Mom was passing around the US pic and she said that my cousin refused to look at it. Needless to say, I stopped speaking to her for a multitude of reasons, but it ticks me off she's being this way about me being pregnant. She's too childish for a 39 YO.
With that said, your "friend" doesnt sound like much of a friend at all. I'd keep it moving, and just right her off. She can be upset but to treat you the way she is, is a bit much and over the top. Now is a time in your life that you're going to see who your real friends are. They will weed themselves out for you.

We're having an elective ultrasound tomorrow, and I can not wait. I could give a flying f*** if they can see whether or not baby has a penis, because all I want is to see that little heart beating away. We don't go for our A/S until January 30, which is fine by me, but we really want to have peace of mind so we can finally tell our families we're expecting again. And well, it's $39, and even after having met my deductible last year, I still paid $105 for my early scans after insurance, so the "free" argument blows my mind.
I have no opinions either way about elective ultrasounds. My UO is more a judgement on doctor's offices scheduling anatomy scan too early to be able to see that all the organs, etc. are developed the wat the need to be. And, like I said before, that opinion doesn't pertain to your situation at all. Good luck tomorrow, I'm crossing my fingers, and I can't wait to tell you "congrats!" hahahaha
Ha! It beats the hell out of "grats!" ... And thanks. I'm already nervous and was a raging hormonal mess last night. I totally agree with the A/S being too early opinion. I'm glad mine isn't until after 20 weeks, I wouldn't have wanted it any earlier than that. I'm also of the opinion that the A/S is just that ... It's an in-depth look at my baby's heart, spine, brain, organs etc. It's not a "fun look" at what's between the legs. So yeah, not getting backlash from me on that one!
We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.
“So can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I’m still young?
I wanna hold her hand and show her some beauty before all this damage
is done. But if it’s too much to ask, it’s too much to ask … Then send
me a son.” – Arcade Fire
While I too agree with all of this, I must admit that DH and I almost did a 3D early 16 week ultrasound just for fun. It was only $60 or something like that. But we both decided it was a silly waste of money. However, my ultrasounds at my Drs are definitely not free and much more expensive than that. Thanks to my deductible and my insurance doesn't pay until it is reached. Yay for it being a new year - which means a new deductible as well!
A friend had this done a few weeks ago and they were wrong on the sex! Not to mention, although ultrasound is generally accepted as a safe tool, using ultrasonic waves that potentially can heat cells for over an hour for the hell of it sounds potentially dangerous to me. Plus I just play around with my own ultrasound machine for free every couple of weeks just for a moment to check in. Pretty sure I saw a scrotum last week but we will know for sure on Wednesday.
And definitely not paying for a creepy video of my baby for 250 - yep that is how much my Dr's office charges. It looks like an alien to me! I will wait until he/she is in my arms to video tape thank you very much!
My UO is that I wish they would bring back the 3 day waiting period from the time you create an account until you can post. It would force people to lurk! Then maybe more would understand the nature of these message boards. I think it would keep newbies from getting so butthurt, heh.

My UO is that this hospital food is pretty amazing. I just had a veggie burger for lunch and it was one of the best I've had. And there's a Friendly's downstairs. If I get the OK, I'm sending my husband down to get me a Reese's pieces sundae ASAP. Gotta appreciate the little things in an otherwise crappy situation!
Right on!!!!!!!! I love it!

I'm in, and this might ruffle some feathers. I think that elective ultrasounds to find out the sex of the baby are the biggest waste of money. Is it really that hard to wait 34 more weeks to find out the sex at a free scan? Why do you need to pay 75100 to do it early?
I agree. I was whining yesterday about how I didn't have an ultrasound at my 16w appt and have to wait four more weeks until my a/s, and someone recommended an elective. Perfectly fine rec, but I was later talking with H about how I would never spend the money on an elective. It's silly, and money is not expendable for us. No way.
We won't go for an early elective scan either... but y'all might be begging me to since I ahve to wait 2 MORE MONTHS for our A/S. Oh man, everyone is going to get tired of my whining...
Haha. I promise I won't get tired of you're whining. Yours is like, five days after mine or something, yes? No...that cant be right. Mine is 20w on the dot on 1/31; I could've sworn you said yours was 2/5, but that certainly doesn't add up. Anywho, waiting is the pita and I won't fault anyone for a moan or two.

You can totally call me that. No one ever did until my anniversary board started it on The Nest and I love it!
The million and one 'IT'S A ....' posts make me roll my eyes. I haven't opened a single one.
I'll admit that they are starting to annoy me, but it's only because I'm a brat and am getting frustrated that I won't know what I'm having for a while yet.
But I totally plan to announce here when I find out. Is that AWy? I guess so, lol. But I definitely want to know what some others are having. I hope my announcement is taken well and not as an annoying tidbit of unwanted info, ha.
I work in a veterinary hospital - I am a vet. If we are slow and I haven't seen the LO in a while I do a quick peak. Just to see the flicker of the heart. So cute. I try not to abuse it and only check in every other week or so.
Forgot to quote above. Everyone is welcome to come use mine anytime you are in Memphis! I will do free quickly ultrasounds - however I definitely do not take any real guess at sex! haha

Yep, how'd you know?
I don't think they are AWy, just... idk. It's like in the beginning when every post was 'BFP!' 'I'm due in June too!' etc... it's the same thing over and over, and my answer is the same thing every time, just a generic 'congrats' and I'd rather just not reply at all. So I don't! Not expecting anyone to agree with me, which is why I posted it as a UO

Just curious, but why?
Because it's the same post over and over and overandoverandover and there are only ever two different answers inside.
Gotcha. I was thinking it was because of something different (see Skio's post). I actually love seeing them--I get all excited thinking of how excited I'll be when I get to find out

I wasn't aware of that as this is the only online message board I really frequent. Interesting. The phrase is still pretty gross in my unpopular opinion, though, because like I said, it makes me picture nasty butt issues like hemorrhoids. It's like how a lot of people have issues with the words moist or panties. Butt hurt makes me cringe like moist makes others cringe.

Just curious, but why?

Because it's the same post over and over and overandoverandover and there are only ever two different answers inside.
You can totally call me that. No one ever did until my anniversary board started it on The Nest and I love it!

Are you team green, Dumble?
Gotcha. I was thinking it was because of something different (see Skio's post). I actually love seeing them--I get all excited thinking of how excited I'll be when I get to find out

I understand the repetitiveness can get annoying but having an end-of-the-month due date, I hope to post and still get a couple congrats when it's my turn to find out and announce the sex! LOL
DITTO THIS!!! I so agree!

I didn't think anyone was from the Memphis area. Yay! We just moved here about 2 years ago. It is growing on me.
You're not. I HATE sushi.
my read shelf:
Same here. I'll tolerate Philly rolls, but always order the teriyaki option if it is available.
