I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe benzoyl perioxide is safe during pregnancy and that is one of the active ingredients. I wouldn't risk it. That is my own personal opinion.
I was using it when I got pregnant last time. My midwife advised me to stay away from anything with b. peroxide and salicylic acid. I actually do the oil cleansing method now... amazing the results!!

Neither of my obs, I switched practices at 12 weeks, asked me about what I was using so I asked them both and neither had any issue with me continuing proactive. Both pregnancy books I've been reading don't list any of proactive's active ingredients on the no no list.
Most of the research I did on my own said no benzoyl p. or salicylic acid. When I discussed this with my OB she said that anything over the counter is generally considered to be too low in either of these to cause harm to the baby. She said less than 5% of what you put onto your skin gets into your bloodstream and so even less than that makes it to your baby. The last thing she said was that if I was still worried to use Belli or Arbonne products which tend to use the sulphur ingredients other moms have posted about.
I double checked with my OB's office this morning and they said it is perfectly safe. Again, I use the gentle formula because the normal formula dries my skin more than I like it to so that may be something you might want to try instead.
Re: Proactiv
There are products that contain benzoyl peroxide, which have been recommended safe for pregnant women to use. See link below...
https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/acnetreatment.html
I also called my doctor about acne meds and they said anything with benzoyl peroxide was fine.
What's the oil cleansing method?
I've been told NO benzoyl peroxide and NO saliclyic (sp?) acid. Basically, nothing that is supposed to treat acne!
Proactiv does make a sulphur face mask and I have used that a few times.
