In the next 6 days...

Between now and Tuesday, DS and I will be spending 36ish hours in the car, the majority with just the two of us. Great times ahead, eh? Most days will be 89 hrs, but I'm insane and scheduled a 12 hour day.

Survival tips? Dh is with me today, then Sat, Mon, and Tue, DS and I are on our own.

  • Good luck! Bring LOTS of snacks, stock up on cheap new toys, and try to cover as much distance as you can while he's sleeping. YOU CAN DO IT!

This. And if you can get your hands on a portable DVD player I recommend that!

Or even cracker barrel because they have tons of little cheap toys. We always eat there then buy them some kind of cheap car or whatever that entertains them for a while. Also, I always wrap a ton of little things either things you already have or dollar store toys and let him unwrap one every hour. I also agree with the DVD player. Liam went on two long trips at this age, one was 19 hours both ways, one was 12 hours both ways. He watched the same Diego DVD 1000 times, but at least he wasn't crying.

  • Yikes!  I also recommend a DVD player, or an ipad to stream Netflix, if you have an account.  And a variety of snacks.  It doesn't matter how hungry DD is, she gets bored of eating the same snack over and over again.

Good luck, that's a lot of time in the car!

  • Thanks for the tips - I couldn't reply earlier because I was at MIL's and couldn't get on here. (I don't like to log on from their computer, the cell reception is sketchy, and I didn't have my laptop. Boo.)

So two days of driving are done - the first, DS and I slept all day (and then couldn't sleep that night. Today really stank - I had to drop DH off at the airport at 5am, then drive 8+ hours home. Bah. It wasn't bad since I stopped in random cities to see friends.

But my big day of driving is on Monday - I'm driving during the day since I'm alone, so I don't know how DS will sleep. (Hopefully not the whole day, since I want him to sleep at night.) I am borrowing a DVD player just in case. I can't stream Netflix or anything since we'll be driving through 12 hours of NOTHING.I probably won't even have cell reception for half the day. Bleh. I just want it to be done.
