Hello,
I've looked at a number of forums and somehow it seems more appropriate for me to join the 35 and over group. I am 39 and recently found out I am pregnant which was a blessing. We'd been trying for 6 months and were going to be referred to a fertility clinic after the new year but no need now as I am 5 weeks, 2 days pregnant. This is my first pregnancy and will be my DH's 3rd child (two - both in their 20s from a previous marriage). I'm a little nervous about the high risk aspect from both my age (baby will be born after I turn 40) as well as high blood pressure that I've had for a few years. Trying not to stress but that can be challenging. Looking forward to connecting with other ladies in my own age group. Congrats to all of you!
Re: Intro from 39 yo first timer
Congrats and best of luck on a happy and healthy pregnancy!
If it's any comfort, many of us on here are even older (I'm having my first now at 41). Being AMA, we get the option of a few extra screening tests, which mean more ultrasound pics than our younger friends:)

All ALers welcome!
I'm 38 and this is my first. You are in good company. My great-aunt had her only baby (now in his 50s). My PCP had her first at 42-- healthy. My SIL had her first at 39/40-- first, and now 2nd, are both healthy. One of my BFFs had her one and only at 40-- healthy. And all these women on this board!
I didn't tell anyone except my very immediate family (and not DH's family) until we were at 8 weeks and then the extended family and others after 12 weeks. But we had a loss at 6 or 7 weeks a few months before. But that's totally a personal decision...
Again-- welcome to the board and a H&H 9 months to you!

I was told that your risk of miscarriage drops to less than 5% once you see the heartbeat (which happens earlier than hearing it). But it's really up to you whom to want to tell when. I kept the news to my parents and two or three close and trusted friends until I hit 12 weeks.
Try not to stress too much (easier said than done, I know), and just take the best care of yourself that you can. I walk my dogs every single day without fail and I think it has done wonders for my BP. And I just feel so much better and less stressed after a good long walk with them!
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
I was 39 when first pregnant and turned 40 4 months in. Have had a reasonably ok pregnancy. Our N/T scan came back great and I was relieved to not feel the need to do an amnio/CVS. Then, they accidentally ran a Quad on me at 16 weeks, when they should've just done the neural test. It was bad on 3 counts- it came back "abnormal", I didn't ask for it and it wasn't run by the same lab as my NT so they really couldn't calculate it's validity in concert w/the NT like the normally would.
I went in for an early ultrasound(my choice) and everything looked good. I opted out of the MaterniT21(insurance is insane and I'm a "what will be, will be person." So, long story not so short- everything is looking good at 26 1/2 wks!
Congrats to you as well. I definitely understand about nerve racking but I try and remind myself that baby will do better if I stay calm. It's funny you said you love being pregnant, I think most of the time I don't really feel pregnant. I'm just barely six weeks and haven't had many symptoms other than my breasts being sore and getting bigger. I can hardly believe it's real either...definitely trying to enjoy the experience though instead of stress about it. Have a great day!
