Day One: Total Success! NBR

SIL and I have a goal, 10lbs each gone in a month.  We figure we can achieve this if we cut, cookies, candy, chips, fast food and chocolate for a month in addition to going to the gym a minimum of 3 times a week and never setting our fuel goals lower than 3500.

I seriously need the detox from the above list as I think that I existed off of the above list for the month of December.

I need evening snack ideas.  Butterless popcorn (last night's idea) sucks.  I figure I need a complete overhaul in the snack department.  If I eat something like Special K snacks then I am not doing anything to break the cookie/chip addiction.

HELP!

  • I like the Quaker cheddar rice cakes, the serving size seems generous and they taste good. You could also try 2% milk cheese sticks or veggies and dip (made with non-fat greek yogurt).

  • Do you like raspberries?  I have found that if I heat up a cup of frozen raspberries with 2 T of crushed almonds and a sprinkle of cinnamon it really does the trick.  The almonds are crunchy and the sweet of the raspberries and cinnamon help with my sweet tooth! I usually have something like this with a cup of hot (decaf) tea, and I am full!

    Good luck!

  • One of my favorite filling snacks is plain Greek yogurt mixed with raspberries or any fruit and granola. I love it!

  • I used to make air-popped popcorn, but spray the butter flavored Pam on it.  I'm sure not the healthiest.  Also, you can make popcorn in a dutch oven w/ a couple Tbsp. of olive oil.  That is a good fat.

I also like a string cheese along with a serving size of wheat thins.  I have to have something with 'mouth feel' (like real food, yogurt doesn't do it for me).  Personally I have to set myself up for success, if I try to cut everything all out at once, I'll just go nuts with that item later down the road.

ETA:  Apples and PB, celery and PB, always keeping a pre-made salad in the fridge, veggie soup, my friend does spaghetti squash with salsa...I'll add more after I think of them.

  • This sounds gross but I like it.  Cucumber slices with taco sauce on them.

  • frozen grapes are one of my favorite snacks, but I can't eat them in the winter - too cold!

I'm going through an apple phase right now, so I stocked up on them at the store and now I grab one of them every-time I want a snack.

I also used to do airpopped popcorn with some parmesan sprinkled over, but I haven't made that in a long time.

Also a good idea to keep chopped veggies ready to go in the fridge - carrots, celery, jicima,  green beans - that you can grab if you're feeling nibbly.

  • Guacamole. Make sure you're using a sour cream free recipe and it will be full of good fats, even though it tastes like junk food. Dip carrot sticks or any veggie you like.

  • I'd steer clear of carbs. What about cheese?
