Eli had to get blood drawn at 9 and 10 months old. I thought it would just be a foot prick as well but I wasn't very wrong. Poor buddy got so hysterical he made himself sick.
Grant had 8 vials drawn at the children's hospital and he did surprisingly well. He cried for a second during the initial prick, but sat there patiently for each vial to fill. I have heard so many stories like yours so I was terrified. Guess I'm lucky that they got him on the first stick. Hopefully no more pricks are in your LOs future.
My LO got his drawn too for a allergy test. We tried it at the DRs office and it was horrible, the nurse jabbed away on both his arms and never got the vein. (He screamed bloody murder the entire time.)
We ended up going to the lab at the hospital the next day and it was a zillion times better- took two seconds for her to zip it in his vein and he didn't cry after the initial prick.
