Your ideas?

This is random, but I'm out of ideas at work and thought you ladies could help!

I lead a monthly conversation group for new parents in our church--it's a way to help connect people. We do highs/lows and share parenting questions/ideas very similar to the advice we share here (ie: what sippy cup will actually work?).

But, we also have a guiding topic for each month's conversation. Last month, it was "How do we not go crazy as parents with the chaos of the holidays."

We're planning 2013 this Sunday and I just have no clue what types of conversations to suggest. So, if you were part of a casual conversation/support group for new parents, what kind of topics would you like to talk about? What topics would you like to delve into with other parents?

The topics don't need to be religious (though they can be). Your suggestions appreciated! Thanks.

Re: Your ideas?

  • Now that the new year has begun, and I have made the typical resolution of getting more active and back into an exercise routine, I'm struggling with how to fit this into my already hectic schedule of (attempting to) keep up with housework, my office full time job, getting dinner on the table, taking care of and spending as much time as possible with LO.  That was a ramble on sentence, my apologies.  So I guess a good topic for me would be, how do we fit our resolutions into already busy schedules?

  • How to juggle work/life/relationships and parenting all together, and for me, how faith plays a role in it all.

I regulalry want to discuss the many lessons that God has taught me through Micah. My perspective on faith has completely changed since he came into my world. It's a lot of those moments where you're comforting your child and realize that God is trying to comfort you the same way, but you can't understand or don't trust Him.

Also, as we mentioned in the check in below, there are many different beliefs on how to redirect behavior. It would be interesting to hear how others approach this at various age levels.

  • Here's one DH and I encountered over the holidays. DH's cousin has no bedtime and few rules for her kids and when we were there for Christmas, we realized it was a good thing we didn't live near them because we don't know how we would handle the kids spending a ton of time together.

How do you manage relationships with people whose parenting ideas greatly differ from yours?

  • Also, the check in post made me realize how much of a routine we are in.  As I said, I feel DH and I live a very monotonous lifestyle now that we are parents.  Although I love spending time with DD, it seems like everyday it's wake up, go to work, come home, go to sleep and wake up to do it ALL OVER AGAIN.  How are new parents dealing with this and breaking from the routine of everyday life, with their spouse, child or both??
