How long does the handwashing obsession last?

LO just learned that he can bring his stool to the bathroom sink & now wants to stand there all day letting the water run & use the soap. How long until your LO got over it? TIA

OMG, DS1 is in the same place now for at least a few months. While I don't want to discourage hygiene, it's kind of making me nuts. Even after he gets out of the bath, where we've already washed his hands, all we hear is "Washahands! Washahands!" Ack.

Lol! DS has been doing this for months now! Never though I'd have to nag him to stop washing hands!

DD did this when she was PTing. My solution was to buy bottles of hand sanitizer. We direct her to wash her hands when appropriate (after bathroom, before meals, after outside, etc.). Otherwise if she heads for the bathroom I just cut her off and offer the hand sanitizer. The novelty wore off pretty quickly.
