SO utensils...plates/bowls

Do you serve your LO meals on plates/bowls?  The post about utensils got me thinking...D likes to use a fork and has some success with a spoon. However, if I give him anything on a plate or in a bowl it almost always ends up on the floor. So I usually just put it on his highchair tray. This poses a problem when we go out to eat. I can't let him eat off the nasty table! LOL

Anyone have any tips for how to get him to not toss his plate/bowl?  Besides duct taping it to the table? haha

  • We use disposable placemats when we go out to eat.  We tape them to the table.  It is the only thing that has worked for both kids. We have been giving her utensils, but she just holds them and eats with the other hand.

We use these at restaurants, too, they are great. If we use a real plate, she is more interested in playing with it and ends up flipping it over.

  • I guess we lucked out this time around.  C actually holds the bowl to eat.  With our other two we bought bowls with built in suction cups... I believe Gerber made some but that was several years ago.

    Munchkin makes some!  https://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Count-Stay-Suction-Bowl/dp/B000JOT2RO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357218176&sr=8-1&keywords=suction+cup+bowl

  • Great ideas ladies!  I will try the suction cup bowls & get some placemats for backup.

  • We use the Munchkin suction bowls that Ms mentioned.

DD is pretty good until the end of the meal and then everything will leave her tray one way or another. I like to encourage her to hand things to me, but she doesn't always like that idea.

The suction cups do not keep the bowl on the tray, but it gives us a slit second longer to catch it, which is usually enough time to give us parents a leg up.
