Pregnant after 35

New kind of prep for the movies

So, MH and I are (finally!) going to see "The Hobbit." It's basically 3 hours long. I can no longer hold my pee in that long. Not even at work anymore.

So now I have to try and gauge when I need to stop hydrating so that I can make it through the movie that starts in 1 hr 20 minutes, with maybe a minor pee stop just before going in and sitting down.

This is a whole new kind of math!

Re: New kind of prep for the movies

  • LOL! Yes a stop right beforehand should do it! And hopefully you will be so into the movie that you will not be thinking about having to pee or won't need to until afterwards. On a side note, I totally envy you for being able to go to the movies. I haven't seen a movie with hubby since Hangover 2 and we had to play hookie from work to see that! :)

Enjoy and have some super buttery popcorn for me!!

  • Well I know I wouldn't make it.  I went to a two hour movie this weekend and I made it but I had to go so bad afterwards.  I shouldn't have drank a lemonde during the movie though so that was a mistake.  Also I have noticed since being pg that when I have to go it can become painful fast and then I can't even empty my bladder quickly, it takes forever.

  • Abeille, I have been waiting to see this movie since last year. I've just been working or tied up with family obligations until now. I'm very excited. I have all of Tolkien's books and until nursing school, would read The Hobbit and the LOTR every year. I even have "The Fellowship of the Ring" in French! (And I also have a tattoo in Quenyan around my ankle. I'm that kind of nerd!

I've decided that I will give myself a small drink in 10 minutes when I swallow my Fiorcet-- since I've had a mild headache for two days now and I'm going to be dehydrated by the time I make it out of this movie-- and then I'll pee just before we go into the theater. Then I will just have to pray that it works out and I don't have to leave to go pee.

  • Yes that sounds like a good plan!  I'd definitely stop drinking for at least an hour beforehand, then make a pitstop right before it starts.  That said, I usually can't make it through 3 hour movies even when I'm NOT pregnant lol.

And I'm jealous too!  I think since DD was born I have seen maybe 3 movies in an actual movie theater, and most of those involved DH letting me escape for a Saturday night with a girlfriend to see a chick flick.  I saw one with DH when we both took a long lunch one time, but no "date nights" in over two years. :P

Um, there is NEVER a good time in a LOTR film to leave and go pee. Never. I'd rather wear a diaper.

  • I saw it last week when my IL's were in town and managed not to have to get up to pee!  I did pee right before we left the house and then peed again before we sat down for the movie.  Nothing to eat or drink during the movie.  It was an awesome movie btw!

No tattoos, but I own all the books and have read them multiple times...I hope to get a chance to see The Hobbit in the theater.

  • No way I could make it that long w/o peeing and w/o drinking anything.

Good luck and enjoy the movie!  Sounds fun!

  • Ha ha! I love this conversation.  We went to see it last weekend and when I saw how long the movie was (plus you have to count all the previews), I knew there would be no way I could sit through the movie.  I made sure I had an aisle seat.  I'm not that big of a fan (DH is more the hobbit/LOTR fan) so I figured I'll catch the missed scenes on video when it comes out. Have fun seeing it!

  • So I caved and had 3 ice chips during the entire movie-- and by the end of the 2nd hour, I needed to pee. But I was able to hold it until the end. Thank goodness for the nursing training so I have a nurse's bladder!

    How was the movie?

It was good. For some reason, they felt the need to change some things from the book-- things that they didn't need to change to advance the plot or keep it exciting, so I'm not sure why they made the changes. And some things, well, I think they just wanted to use their special effects "because we can." But it was still a good movie. I'll reserve final judgment until the other two installments are released because I'm wondering if they skipped major parts or if they'll put them in the next 2. I'm still going to pay to see it in 3D with some friends...

  • If you have to go, go!  Water intake is so important.  It sounds like a long movie.  I wouldn't hold it in. You can always rewatch it on DVD later.  Hope you have fun!
