3rd Trimester

to work or not to work?

I am due tomorrow, but I was tentatively planning on working til friday unless I have the baby sooner. My boss is fine with me leaving whenever I feel I need to. I am not returning to work once this baby is born - i will be a SAHM.

I am so incredibly tired b/c I cannot get more than a couple of hours of sleep at night anymore b/c i have had contractions all night since last tues.

If I take this week off work, in theory, i could stay home and rest. the thing is, my house is spotless, everything for the baby is ready, etc. so there is nothing for me to do at home except nap, and I'm not sure my body will let me get rest. I also worry sitting at home will make the days drag on and on.

But I also worry if I work, I will be so exhausted and then have to go thru labor. But working passes the time since I don't have the internet at home - so if i work i can e-mail people and nest..

  • If you can swing it, I would probably go ahead and quit work. You could try and rest as much as possible. Or, maybe just work some 1/2 days?

  • I was off for 4 weeks before I was induced with ds... I would not have worked for the world those last couple of weeks, even with all the stuff being done. Your sleep and rest is important for labor and delivery. It takes a lot of energy to get through it. I would presonally take the rest of the week off and rest, but that is just me. Good luck and I hope your baby comes soon!

  • Stay home and rest! You could go on nice long walks, sleep as much as possible, read, just enjoy being alone before the craziness starts. Kiss the working world goodbye and spoil yourself!

  • I would try half days.  I was on half days for a few weeks because of contractions and it was great.....gave me the business and socialization of being at work and the opportunity to rest in a quiet house....best of both worlds!!

I agree! Plus, as tired as I feel today, I'd stay home and try to rest more. It'll be a while before you have quiet/alone time again once baby arrives.
