Got my date, but the time...ugh...it's in the afternoon

Well, doctor's office called today - my RCS is scheduled for Monday, January 28. So, yay! I like knowing a date. But...it's not until 2:30 p.m. Blech. With my first, the surgery was at like 9 in the morning. How awful is it to go 8 hours during the day without drinking? I'm thirsty ALL the time. I can't imagine how uncomfortable I'm going to be without being able to drink water after 6:30 a.m. that day. Someone give me some comforting words! LOL. I'm not scared about being cut open; I'm scared about how dry my mouth is going to be...isn't that silly?

  • Mine with Lucas wasn't until noon. I took sips of water before I went in. I couldn't not have water. I know I broke the rules, but I had to.

  • My RCS with DS3 was at noon but I was too excited to sleep the night before. I'd been up for a while. I had problems with dehydration with my RCS with DS2 that made me feel horrible. I didn't want that to happen again and I was very thirsty so I broke the rules too and kept taking sips of water.

  • Mine was also scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with arrival to L&D at 12:30.  I sipped on water and even herbal tea up until 10ish.  I definitely felt queasy and nervous all morning.  It sucks having a late appointment time.  I told the anesthesiologist I'd had sips of water, and he just said, "OK."   I didn't get to eat until 6 hours after the c/s, by which time it had been at least 24 hrs since I'd last eaten.  I was starving!

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • DD was born at 7:45 am so when DS was scheduled for 11:30am I thought it was going to be a problem too esp since I was a scheduled repeat and figured I'd be pushed if emergencies came in.  H actually was working the night before so I had him bring me home a 12" sub at 1am.  I think that combined w/ how excited I was made me not even think about it.  I was a little behind b/c my OB had a scheduled c/s right before mine and I guess things can just tend to run over.  I got in for my spinal at 11:55am and they didn't get the freaking thing in till 12:25.  Then I was nauseous for a while so food was the last thing on my mind.  I think I was able to keep dinner down???  I don't know, I think the excitement will keep your mind off of it.

  • Also don't be suprised if your time gets moved up between now and then.  I was originally scheduled for an afternoon c-section but the day before I found out that other scheduled c-sections had gone early so my time was moved up.
  • My RCS was scheduled for 3pm originally. About 1 week before I got the call that it was moved up to 8:45am. I was wheeled into the OR at 8:35am. It can change!

  • DS's c-section was at 2:30 and it was right on time.  They gave me ice chips at the hospital when I complained of being thirsty.  For me the hardest part was my low blood sugar, I was trembling and light headed without having eaten for 16 hours.  But it went really fast and I insisted on getting something to eat before they brought DS to me to try to latch on...  It worked out...

  • Maybe try backing off the water intake a week or so before?  I know staying hydrated is important, but maybe a slow decline will make that morning easier?

My CSection will be scheduled for the morning and I'm more dreading getting up at 4 am to get to the hospital.  lol

  • I can't believe how many late c/s's there are!  I didn't think they did them after a certain time.  Mine is scheduled for 7am and I have to be there at 5am :( I agree with some of the other ladies.  I think eating ice chips or even sneaking a sip here and there isn't going to hurt, as long as you aren't chugging glasses of water :)

  • Why aren't you allowed water beforehand? My previous C-section was emergency and I had been having water/ice all through labor... This is new to me. Would love more info.
