Update on cats

For those of you remembering my vent about visiting my MIL and her cats and having allergies here is the update. She promised to confine the cats before we even bought the plane tickets out here. Monday, she said she couldn't put the cats in any room because they claw at the door and carpet. She promised that she would keep them in the top two floors and we would get the bottom one.

Came in yesterday and one cat was in the bottom floor the entire time. Plus she left the cats food, toys, litter box, bed, etc. on the bottom floor. Oh yeah, and the cat's bed was sitting on our bed when we arrived.

DH was complaining about me sniffling last night and then how the towels had cat hair all over. He finally understands now!! And told his mom that from now on we'll have to get a hotel and only be here for a few nights. Luckily tonight we are already staying somewhere else, but Friday we are back at her house.

So frustrating and yet relieving!

  • Gross...I'm so sorry you are suffering through this but so happy that your DH has finally figured it out and taken your side!

Hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip without too much trouble.

  • I'm sorry that she didn't keep to her word, but maybe it's a blessing in disguise since you DH understands now!

Yay for hotel-only stays in the future! Smile

  • I get this completely. I'm severely allergic to cats. I get sneezy and the sniffles almost immediately as I go into a cat house. I can't stay long. In September I had to stay at my friends house for a night with DS and she has a cat. I felt like sucha jerk for asking her to clean her house and close off the bedroom days beforehand. She did do it but I still suffered. I can't stand cats or cat hair and I basically avoid going to anyone's house who has a cat. I cannot imagine having a MIL with cats. If I were you I would've been just livid with her. Don't stay there again!

  • Wow, that's pretty inconsiderate! I'm glad your husband is taking care of you :)

My husband is very allergic to cats, too, and we went to my aunt's house (cat house) for New Years. He had to leave at 9:00 (we'd gotten there at 7:00) because he couldn't breathe. At least I got some time with my family and no kids to worry about for a few hours.

  • Anyone with animals just needs to realize that they have to be truthful and considerate of other people's allergies.  You can't really separate them in the house.  It just doesn't work.  You MIL should just admit that with the cats, it isn't going to work for you to stay there.  I have three cats and a dog and would never be able to tell an allergic person they'll be "fine" if they stay here.  Glad you DH sees the issue now!
