June 2012 Moms

Secure your furniture to the wall.

I got into a small debate with a mom on the 3-6 month board a few weeks ago about this. She insisted that her book cases wouldn't need securing because they would "never" fall on her child. *eyeroll*

I know that some moms think its a waste of time and theres no reason to anchor furniture back, but its so easy, it takes no time, and it could seriously save your child.

  • We got lucky and scored a tv lock for our flat screen on clearance. We also bought straps for our dvd case, door handle locks, those white things that go into plugs, cabinet locks, and drawer locks. We still need to get a baby gate. We only need 1 baby gate and as long as it is up and all the doors are shut DS will be trapped in the family room and kitchen area hehe. We only invested in 1 set of safety straps and the tv lock because DS won't be able to get into any other rooms.
  • My LO attempted to climb up onto the entertainment center. Needless to say she wasn't successful but the thought of it shaking and falling over on her just made me cringe. Im right there with you. SECURE EVERYTHING...even if you think its a waste of time...You just never know what our LO's are capible of ;)
  • One thing I would also like to point out is even if it is secured don?t let LOs pull up on it etc? we were at a friend?s house and another friend?s 2-year old started pulling on the large entertainment center almost like she was trying to shake it no one said anything so I said to her dad that is not secured to the wall you may want to tell her to stop.  The dad looked at me and so oh thanks she does that all the time at home.  I am pretty sure my mouth dropped because I was thinking really and BTW watch you kid at other people?s houses LOL
