Do you double pump?

with my first child I pumped just one at a time b/c someone told me my body would think I had twins and I'd have an oversupply problem. Now I think that was stupid and maybe I should double pump with baby #2. I'll be out of work for 6 weeks, but I want to pump after I feed her to build up a stash for DC. What do you think?

Re: Do you double pump?

  • Yes, I double pumped. It takes less time to get the supply out. As far as an over supply problem....I double pumped and eventually got a dropped supply because I wasn't pumping enough and taking the steps to get everything going ( I was an exlusive pumper because my baby was in the NICU and wouldn't latch). I would say double pump. and who cares if you have an over supply... Hell if I could have that problem, I would be so incredibly happy. It was SO much work to get maybe even .5 ounce in each bottle at a pumping. I would cry if any of it got wasted or accidentally spilled. LOL

  • Double pumping is the way to go.  I wouldn't have time to pump at work if I didn't double pump.  Plus my let down is way better when I do two at once.

  • Double pumping makes the most sense, particularly once you are back to work.  I know some people can manage breastfeeding the baby on one side and pumping on the other at the same time (hence only pumping one side), but I could never be that coordinated.

  • I always double pumped.  The only time I ever single pumped was if LO couldn't empty me enough and I was uncomfortable, or if she didn't nurse on both sides and I got engorged on the other side.  These times didn't happen often.

  • Don't trust that person!  Go ahead and double pump.  I already spend about an hour a day pumping, no way I want to double that!
