Breastfeeding

hi all

how has breastfeeding been in these early days for you ladies...?

I am asking because i am really adamant on doing better in that department this time round.

Re: Breastfeeding

  • It's been 1 week and sticking to it. The only thing was although I was breast feeding on demand he was always crying and barely sleeping...so I have been pumping and he is drinking 4 oz...now he sleeps a lot more and barely cries.

  • It was tough at first because dd was choking a lot. The past few days have gotten better. She seems to have gotten the hang of a good latch and adjusting to the letdown which was causing the choking. She hasn't stopped all together but its not every time anymore. Im starting to feel much better about the whole thing.

In a couple weeks I'll start pumping and introducing occasional bottles so it wont be so demanding on me and I think that will make it easier. It will be nice to be able to go do something once in a while and not have to revolve everything around her eating every two hour schedule.

  • Going well for us. I pumped for the first time at 4 weeks pp, and I plan on doing that 1x per day in addition to bf to help build a freezer stash before I return to work

  • It's going very well this time. Last time was hard, I had a low supply, DS was biting and not latching correctly and at 2 weeks we started supplementing formula. By 4 weeks I was pumping and I have up on physically nursing. This time DD is awesome. She latches easily, eats every 2 to 4 hours during the day, 4 to 6 hours at night and nurses for about 15 minutes each session. It was 10 to 12 minutes, but she recently attracted going longer. I had considered not even trying this time because I was so defeated last time, but I am so glad I did!

  • We are doing pretty well. It has gotten easier as the weeks go on. I was very lucky though, my milk came in within two days and I am producing enough for him to eat every two and half to four hours plus pumping at least 12 to 16 oz a day. I think me of the things that has helped me is having my lactation consultant on speed dial. I have met with her twice and she has given me different positions and reassured me of all my concerns.

  • Breastfeeding is going well for us DD was 2 weeks yesterday.  What I'm having problems with is pumping.  I have an Ameda pump and I started trying to pump las Wed. (day after Christmas), each time I pump i get anywhere between 1/2 oz. to 1 1/2 oz.  except yesterday I bottle fed her at her 5:00 feeding from what I had previously pumped and was able to pump 3 1/2 oz. out of one side an 1 oz out of the other.

I feel like I should be pumping alot more than I am?  If express my breast after pumping by hand, I still have quite a bit of milk come out, could it be my pump or that I am not using the pump correctly?

  • It is going pretty well here, thankfully.  She doesn't nurse as long as she "should" based on things I've read, but has sopping wet diapers all day long, so I'm no too concerned.

I had such a hard time with my first LO; although we eventually got the hang of it, I had to pump everything he ate for his first 3 weeks and the majority of 2 weeks after that, and it was rough.

  • It's going so much better this time than with DS. At 1 1/2 weeks I was still in a LOT of pain, this time, it hardly hurts anymore. My milk came in the 2nd night, and I haven't had a problem with supply so far. I hope it keeps going so well, this has been such a relief to not have issues.

  • We've been at it for 2 weeks, and we've hit a rough patch but we'll get through. LO coughs, sputters and pops off sometimes, and is done eating after maybe 10 minutes. He either purses his lips and turns away, or passes out, so I'm thinking over active letdown. Reclining slightly while nursing seems to help.
