Poop advice

This may be TMI; but whatevs.  The last 4 diapers DS has had have been loose and watery BMs.  He normally only has a BM every other day max so it's definitely not normal.  He's supposed to go to daycare tomorrow but their policy is that kids are sent home after 2 loose stools.

He's been acting pretty normal; he isn't fussy really.  Should I keep him home tomorrow and monitor him or should I send him to daycare? WWYD?

Re: Poop advice

  • Could he be teething?  I've heard that can cause loose stool.

Personally I'd keep an eye on him between now and the am.  If he's acting fine and nothing seems worse/he doesn't seem sick I'd send him, and they can call you if they need you.  Unless you have a flexible job where taking off isn't a big issue.  We sent older LO to daycare on a Monday after a weekend of off and on diarrhea and he was totally fine.

  • I would keep him home to monitor him, too.

  • DD had this happen for a few days when her first teeth were about to cut through. Check your LOs gums with your finger to see if you can feel a tooth ready to pop out. If so, that's probably the cause, especially if there's no fever with the loose stool.

  • Like the other ladies said, it sounds like it might be teething! Maybe you could give him some oatmeal or cereal or something with a bit of iron? That usually helps Renee a little bit.

  • He could be teething but I haven't seen any other symptoms of teething. I called daycare this morning and they said he has to be symptom free for 24 hours meaning we're staying home today (he still had runny poo this morning).  Luckily I work at the daycare so it isn't too much skin off my nose.
