I'm posting this on the natural board since more moms here probably practice babywearing than in the regular boards.
When our second is born, our first will be 18 months. At first, I was excited to get a stroller for both babies, but I am reconsidering the more I think about it. I'm thinking that the newborn will be in a sling, rather than a stroller early on and our son will probably be walking most of the time. I'm thinking it might be best to get another single stroller, since the only time both kids would be riding (on the bike trail, at the zoo, an amusement park, etc.) my husband and I would be together to push separate strollers.
The giant double seaters look like a nightmare since they are so big. Do you agree? What works best for your family with two little ones?
Re: Families with 2 LO- Stroller Preference?
My original plan was yours -- wear LO2 most of the time and let DS walk. I rarely used a stroller when he was a baby. But, I found a double at a garage sale for $10 and figured I'd grab it. If we never use it, it was only ten bucks.
You can always get one later if you find you need it. I wouldn't spend the money on a new one until after LO is settled into to your family and you really feel like you need one.
While I am a few days from my first experience with this, this is exactly how I feel right now. I don't need the stroller for my 20 m/o much these days, but there are times I need him contained. And I can't imagine getting errands done taking baby in and out of a carrier at each stop. I think there are plenty of times I will wear baby and let my toddler walk, but there are also times I know I will want the double.
I couldn't stand double wides. I got a front/back double that our infant seat snaps into the rear position and has a normal seat in front for the toddler. When they are older, the rear position becomes a seat or standing platform for the older kid and the younger goes in the front. I think it's versatile enough to get my money's worth out of it (and it was only $120 on sale, which really isn't a lot for a stroller).
