Is there such a thing?
I feel like DD whines for and wants her pacifier more than I was anticipating at this age. I would say she has it in her mouth about 60% of waking time. Maybe even more.
She babbles and has many different facial expressions, so I don't necessarily know if it is impeding her development in any way.
Does anyone else's baby use the pacifier a lot during the day? Is there such a thing as too much pacifier time?
Re: XP: Overuse of pacifier?
I'm not really sure. DD has to have it at night to fall asleep and sometimes when she is fussy I will give it to her but she mostly sucks on it for a while then pulls it out and plays with it or chews on it.
FWIW I did ask the pedi at her 6 month appointment when I should start weaning DD from her paci and she said that at this age it isn't a problem at all and to not even start worrying about it.
Thanks, Chloe.
How did I miss that we delivered our babies on the same day??? After being on all of our boards together, you think I would have caught that!!!
Ahhh haha I didn't even notice. I'm usually bumping on my iphone so I can never see anyone's tickers!
The difference for us was when he started to walk he could only have it for naps & car rides. At about 18m we cut back to crib only (naps & bed time). He started throwing it out in the middle of the night so I knew he didn't need it to STTN which is huge. He just used it to fall asleep. He turned 2 on Dec 3rd & we "lost" it on the 12th. He does fine now without it. Doesn't even ask for it anymore.
Long story short, I don't think babe can have it too much.

It is a sleep and teething tool for us. DD won't use it otherwise --- but come a new pair of teeth and the pacifier is stuck in her face. Occasionally she'll accept a chilled ring (infant) or frozen washcloth (toddler) but mostly she just wants her pacifier. I wanted to get rid of the pacifier at 6m, but our pedi is sort of pro-pacifier. So here we are at 17m ... her 4th molar just came in -that was tough- so have cut back again to sleep only. To begin the transition, if DD grabs a pacifier during the day (and isn't teething), I give her a "lovey" as I take the pacifier away and she's been content with that.
