McKinky and other BLWs

I started Hunter w pur?es but he's super into feeding himself already. He has been begging for real food. Begging. He was happy gnawing on pizza crust the other day, a pancake at breakfast, part of my apple this morning. He's totally into it.

My Q is can you give me a reminder on it? I did part pur?e and part BLW, but I forget the rules? ::knock on wood:: His eczema and hives haven't returned since I gave him oatmeal.

  • Op I don't know the rules but the web site babyledweaning.com helped me out a ton.

Fishy save some of the squash in chunks after steaming.  Once your lo gets a taste for it try giving him a chunk to play with.  That's how I am doing "both"

I also have one of these and lo loves it! she sucks out all of the juice without the worry of choking.  I have put oranges, strawberries, pears etc inside it and she does all the work :)

  • Cliff's Notes Version:
give them almost anything you're having ...exception: honey, any family allergens
cut foods into finger sized shapes so they can hold and gnaw
gagging is expected for a few weeks as they learn to navigate food around their mouths. Choking is actually less likely for a BLW kid than a pure kid since they control the food from the start
foods that are high in salt should be limited to once a week as baby's system is developing. Examples: pizza, ham, sausage, pepperoni, packaged baby foods
don't put food in baby's mouth. Put a variety in front of him and let him choose

    Have fun!

  • I know I have to wait until Jackson is 6 months old to do this, but I couldn't resist giving him a banana chunk today.  So fun!  I can't wait to do it more often.
