Heart flutter

I have been having a strange fluttering sensation in my heart. Atleast a few times a day my heart will feel like its beating an extra time or just flutters. It seems to happen more at night. Is anyone ele having this and should I be concerned.

Re: Heart flutter

  • It's very common for this to happen while pregnant.

I have palpitations too, talked to my doc about it at my 1st appt. He said that your heart has to pump extra hard to get blood to baby. Make sure you drink 2 liters of water a day & they should be less noticeable/ happen less.

ETA: I would still mention it to your doc when you see him/her.

  • That is something you can talk to your doc about. While in the delivery room with DD they discovered I was tachycardic being that I had that blood pressure cuff on and it monitors like every 20 min or so. My heart rate was over 200 as I was going into transition stage, I thought the nurse was going to have a fit. I had an ablation several years ago to correct the problem but it still occasionally skips or flutters.

  • I actually had that DD too. It was occasional but scary. I am pretty sure it can be pregnancy related. I just don't remember having it this early.

  • I have anxiety from time to time and that's exactly how I feel when having it. Maybe it is pregnancy related like others have said or maybe you're anxious with being pregnant? Either way you should mention it to your doctor.

  • I have palpitations and have had them for awhile, even before being pg. I had a heart arrhythmia when I was younger, so I saw a cardiologist who checked it out. He said it was "benign extra heartbeats" and they're usually caused by stress. I usually feel them at night as well. I've also heard its common for this to happen during pg. I would definitely tell your dr though, to be on the safe side. They may want to check it out.

  • I have had this too, but not as much the last couple days.  I don't think it is anxiety related, at least for me, because I notice it as I'm going to sleep or sometimes in the morning when I'm still in bed.  I occasionally noticed before I was KU, too.

I have read what PP mentioned, the whole bit about the body making more blood, that seems to make sense, and that it's somewhat common.  It's still on my list to mention it to my doc next week.  Do you have an appointment coming up?  Try not to fret.  :)

  • That does make a lot of sense about the working harder to pump more blood. I feel it has to be pregnancy related because before I was pregnant I NEVER had any heart flutters. Yes I have my first appointment scheduled for this Monday so I will definitely mention it to my doctor. Thanks for the help!
  • I have a tachycardia so mine has been racing/fluttering quite a bit. From what I've read it's not uncommon during pregnancy for others as well.

  • I've been noticing this too. It's like the feeling you get when you have a little rush of adrenaline.

  • I get these even when not pg too. Mine are usually stress related, even when I get them in my sleep its usually during high stress or low sleep times. Like pp said, drink plenty of water, stay away from caffeine like you probably already are and get plenty of sleep. But do mention to your dr. Good luck!

  • I have a heart murmur so this happens to me quite often.  Feels like your breath catches, huh?? It's a lil freaky.  I'm sure it's probably harmless, but ask your doc about it.

I totally feel this way, too. It was at it's worst during weeks 5-8 but seems to have calmed down a little.

Yep, all if this. It's probably nothing but mention it to your doctor just in case.
