DIY crib bedding

Anyone just NOT finding crib bedding they love? I can't find anything that I love or that I think isn't too pricy.
Any crafty mommas planning on making their crib bedding? I am, I'm a DIY'er, I sew and craft. I have a very experienced Aunt who is going to help. Plus she works at Joanne Fabrics! Discounts! I'm going for a shabby chic purple nursery. So excited to get started!

Re: DIY crib bedding

  • I made my own crib skirt.  It's GN and has held up well. We'll use it again for LO#3.

With all the recommendations on crib bedding it's all I really wanted.  Couldn't find something I liked that wasn't part of a gigantic, expensive set.  Even the skirt pattern came with a ton of other pieces to it. I just bought crib sheets to coordinate.

  • I still haven't found one I want if the baby is a boy. My grandmother had made my other two kids bedding and she is going to make one for this baby too. If it's a girl, I'm going with  white Eyelet Lace/plain cotton and very light pink roses.

  • I was given a quilt as a gift for DD1 and I ended up just buying plain pink crib sheets to go with it and my mom made me a valance out of the left over material from the quilt.  I'm planning on doing the same thing for DS this time.  My mom and I already picked out the fabric, the colors are light blue, orange, and gray.  I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  • This time around I only intend to use sheets and a bed skirt.
  • I'm making our crib bedding. I am hand stitching the back of the binding on her baby quilt right now. I have found some tutorials for crib sheets, skirt, diaper pad covers, etc., and it all seems really simple. I am doing the sheets as soon as I get done with the quilt.

I am jealous of the Joann's discount. I love that place.

  • I wanted DS to have a Phillies/Eagles themed room so I made his curtains, crib skirt, and seat cover for my rocker out Eagles fabric. It looked cute.  I made a fleece blanket for him too, which was so simple, and it's the one he uses at school for naps.

I love sewing! I've made all 2 of DS's Halloween costumes, and this year I made a new tree skirt, placements, and pillows for Christmas. My next project is this for DD.

  • I made crib bedding for DS and plan to do it again this time.

The bumpers were the most tedious part. This time I plan of just doing two sheets, a skirt and some embellishment on a breathable bumper. Oh and a changing pad to match. Phew I'm exhausted just thinking about it! Totally worth it for a custom look though :

There are some really great tutorials online/on Pinterest!

  • For dd I made a quilt, skirt, and curtains. It was easy and a lot cheaper. Also because it's not themed it looks feminine and pretty which I think will make it easier for her to grow with it.

  • I'm a DIYer too. I made most everything in DD's room and planning the same for this LO.

  • Since the AAP recommends pretty much nothing for the crib but a fitted sheet, I am buying that and making the crib skirt.  I figured even with my total lack of skills, it was only one item, and surely over 6 months I could manage that much.  :)  My mom is making a quilt that matches for tummy time, and if time/material allows, I will use the same fabrics to make curtains and a pillow for my glider.  I think the crib bedding sets include a lot of stuff you don't need, they're super expensive, and how much cooler is it to have something unique?  And I want baby to know (someday) that I made things for him/her even before the delivery.
  • I regret getting crib bedding, big waste. I should have just bought sheets and the breathable bumper, you're not supposed to use a blanket and regular bumpers make people uncomfortable. You can buy just a sheet cheap. It's all so unnecessary
