Affordable Bras

Can any of you ladies suggest a good place to get a maternity bra that isn't crazy expensive? All the ones I've seen so far are more than I would like to spend on a single bra, in the 40/50 range, but if that's the norm I'll have to just buy one because none of my bras fit comfortably anymore. TIA!

Re: Affordable Bras

  • Target has some, but they don't hold up all that well.  Your best bet is to look for sales somewhere like Motherhood maternity.  I think I got mine for around $20 there. You can also try using a band extender with your current bras..

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Thank you! I just checked out their website and they have a ton of bras for 20 plus a ton of buy 3 get 4th free deals.

Are maternity and nursing bras basically the same thing though? I obviously don't need a nursing bra just yet but that seems to be what they have and they look the same to me.

  • I never bought maternity bras with DS and don't plan to this time either. I just bought bigger bras as needed and had some nursing bras for after he was born. Are the maternity bras any different? They're just more expensive from what I recall.

. This - depending on your size.  I love the Victoria's Secret cotton full coverage bras - reg price they are 2 for $49.50 but I think they only go up to a 38DD.  They are super comfy,
  • I second Motherhood Maternity sales. However, I just finished nursing a month ago when DS was 19 months and had been in the same 4 nursing bras for about 2 years at that point. Therefore, while it's great to find a sale, know that you could be in them for a while so you may want to spend a little more and look at the cost as an investment.

My pity party aside is that I was so happy to buy regular bras on Black Friday and wear them the last few weeks that I threw out my nursing bras not realizing that I will need them in a few weeks.

  • After looking around a bit, I am really just seeing regular bras marketed as "maternity bras" and then nursing bras. I am sticking with regular ones. I need the support if underwire if possible but you aren't supposed to wear underwire when nursing so I won't buy nursing bras with underwires. I would buy the extenders or pick up a few comfy bras in the next size up if you need them. Re: price, yes, nursing bras are super expensive for the good ones but I have always bought good ones as everyone says they are worth it. So 4050 apiece for nursing bras is pretty standard.

  • I like the $25 ones from Motherhood Maternity or Target.

Love Victoria's Secret. My hesitance with just going there and buying a bigger size was that I didn't want to spend the money and then not be able to wear them after the baby. But when you think of the 2 for 49 deals, it ends up being the same as 2 decent maternity ones anyways.

  • I've gone to just wearing these super stretchy, but supportive (and I'm about at a 34 F at this point) cami bras I found at Shopco. So if you don't want to spend a ton of money or you have a history (family OR personal) of growing more than a cup size or two, sports bras or cami bras might be the route to go until your boobs settle at the approximate size they will be for nursing,

  • I bit the bullet on Saturday and hit the "4 bras for the price of 3" sale at at Pea in the Pod. It has made a WORLD of difference. Picked up 2 everyday bras, 1 sleep bra, and one sports bra. The sports bra was surprisingly cheap, like 22 full price, and it was cute, didn't look too sporty. I felt okay paying for the 55 everyday bras because they can be used for nursing later. And the sleep bra is amazing. So comfy.

Overall, for about 150, I have greatly improved the comfort level going on in my shirt and couldn't be happier. SO worth it!

  • I never bought maternity bras. I just grabbed a couple cheap target ones that were a size bigger.

I also wore target nursing bras and Camis. Camis more so because they were just so comfy. However, I am just a solid B so I don't need as much support as some ladies do.

  • I went to check prices/sizes at Motherhood maternity (specifically for sleep bras) and was surprised that most where about $20. I've heard Target is a good option too.
