Baby Names

Camden

What are your thoughts on Camden? I can't decide if I like this or not...  If we have a boy this time the middle name would be Steven or Robert.

Thanks!

Re: Camden

  • I think Camden is cute. I definitely prefer it with mn Robert over Steven. I'm not a fan of the fn and mn having the same -en ending sound.

It's not bad but my first thought goes to Camden, NJ (supposedly one of the most dangerous cities in the state).

    Yep. I prefer Cameron.

  • It's become quite trendy and used by several celebrities, I don't see the appeal and even though I live in western Canada I still think of Camden NJ.

  • Yeah, I think of the city too, but that might not be such a big deal in Texas.

  • I'm not a huge fan of baby names inspired by place-names.

    Why not Cameron?

  • I like it. It doesn't make me think of the city even though I'm aware of it.

Although I prefer the name Steven to Robert, I don't like the fn and mn having the same ending sound.

  • I know this board doesn't care for it but I actually like it - I live on the West Coast so have no association with the City in NJ, maybe that's why it doesn't bother me.  DH likes it too.
  • I like it - I wouldn't associate it with Camden, NJ because I'm not familiar with that city.  I actually think of a couple "celebrities" (Nick Lachey & Kristen Cavalleri) who named their sons that.

  • Camden NJ may suck but Camden ME is beautiful. I think it's cute, just very popular.

  • I like it.  Then again, I'm in FL so I don't have the association of the city like some might.

Camden, NJ is a really bad city and it has a reputation for being so, always on those "worst cities in america" lists. They set a record for murders this year. I live about 45 minutes away from there so I wouldn't touch the name with a 10 foot pole, but if you live no where near NJ and its not a common association where you are, its not a terrible name I guess.

Haha this was my first thought, although I might have been thinking more scary than shitty.

Being from NJ originally, I could never use this!
