I know DD should be eating more things, more often, and more quantity. But we're afraid of choking and allergies! Funny thing is, I also want to introduce things to help avoid allergies! She's had lots of fruits and veggie purees: squash, avocado, banana, apples, peas, green beans, carrots, turnip, sweet potato, mashed potato, and just had bits of turkey at Xmas. She also eats Puffs. I haven't done any breads or other meats and am afraid of seasonings if I do like, meatloaf or tacos. She eats four 7 or 8 oz bottles daily, has 2 servings oatmeal/rice, and usually one or two fruits/veggies.
Am I crazy? Does she need to eat more real food?
Re: Anyone else slacking on table foods?
you may be setting yourself up to deal with some food issues....the earlier you expose babies to different foods/textures, the better eating habits they will have. I have a friend that has an almost 2 year old in food therapy because she did that and he only eats purees or yogurt. I start with the cereal at around 5 1/2-6 months, then fruit/veggie purees at 6 months, yogurt at 6 months, proteins at 8 months (I make a veggie and protein soup- either chicken or beef, fish after 9 months ) I also add pastina in it...at first in the soup pureed ( only seasoned with extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, no salt....then I boil it separate and add to puree for thicker texture.....puffs I started at 7 months (small tiny pieces in thirds, and worked their way to a whole piece), my DD1 and DS2 were eating everything we ate by 10 months....cut in small pieces if it was soft enough....I would say after a year I did not do many purees.
day looks like this
bottle
cereal with fruit
nap
lunch (fruit and veggie)
bottle
nap
yogurt
dinner (protein veggie soup and sometimes fruit)
bottle
sleep (10-12 hours)
I offer puffs with meals....for the last month or so he will reach and feed himself

Nathan has always refused to be fed -- by bottle or by spoon. Sigh. So we never did baby food (it ended it frustration for both me and him!) and just went straight to "table food." He's doing well with it, and now he'll even sometimes take tastes off of a spoon or fork (although he prefers to also hold it himself).
Now if we could just get him to take milk in a container rather than nursing (but in addition to nursing).
sounds to me like you are doing ok. This is my 3rd baby, and I still woryr about doing everything the best way possible. Many people don't really add in meats until around 9 months. Your baby should still nutritionally be getting their daily needs from formula or breast milk. The food should be an introduction to the eating process and into a variety of textures (and hopefully a healthy balanced diet)
Seasonings wont hurt your baby, but we should always watch sodium content as too much sodium is not good for anyone.
our daily diet:
6a.m. bfing
7am oatmeal and fruit
7:30-8ish 4oz bottle
9-9:30: nap time
10-1030 yogurt snack or puff snack ( we use our greek plain yogurt)
then a 4oz bottle
12:15 small amount of rice cereal, 1/3 jar veggie (bfing)
1:00 4oz bottle
130 nap
3-3:30 puffs and 4oz bottle
4:00 bfing
5:30- 6ish small amount of rice cereal, 1/3 jar veggie and either some fruit or a little bit of meat that we are having for dinner ~ water
7:00 4oz bottle
8:00 bath
8:30-9 5 oz bottle and bed.
Hope that helps out line what we are giving. We have just started introducing meat from our table. I tried to get meat in a jar last week and I started gagging when I opened it. Our baby keeps indicating that she wants to eat by grabbing our food, by using a pincher grasp to shovel food in her mouth and by saying "ahhhh" really big when she see's food. The most important thing is to listen to your baby and feed them what they need (every baby is different some need more and some need less) And nobody knows your baby as well as you do!
im taking it slow with food- i do breakfast of a veggie and fruit- about 4 oz puree and then at dinner she'll get another fruit or veggie puree with some puffs- tried yogurt she didnt like it-
a little too nervous to try table food.
We started with purees at 6 months because A still had the tongue thrust reflex. a few weeks later when she stopped doing the tongue thing we started babyled weaning. She much prefers finger foods over purees foods. The stuff she still needs to eat with a spoon like cereal, we let her self feed.
She gets 5 (5 oz) bottles a day. With her 1, 3 and 5th bottles she gets solids. Breakfast is usually cereal and fruit, Lunch is whatever we are introducing. Dinner is usually veggies with protein 3-4 times a week.
I just recently got my butt into gear with solids, and that's because Micah kinda forced us into it. We've been doing BLW since 6 months. He wants food all.the.time now. So I guess our "schedule" is that while I'm getting ready in the morning, he sits on a blanket eating either cheerios, mini wheats and/or a cereal bar. He gets lunch at daycare, which is usually pieces of pear or apple or it's some left over dinner. After being at home with him for a week, I realize he needs a decent sized lunch, because he eats a lot of it. Sometimes they give him another snack at daycare of cheerios or graham crackers.
Once he gets home, we now have to give him another snack of baby junk food (puffs, cheese puff looking things or Mum Mums) until I can get dinner ready. Then he eats a plate of whatever we're eating.
Take it at your own pace. When we started solids, I was terrified of choking. I knew that regardless of whenever I started solids, I would be terrified, so I was ready for it then. If you're afraid, then LO will sense that and be uncomfortable with it as well. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, because it doesn't have to work for you. You're doing a great job.

We don't do "real" food yet. He drinks between 20-25oz day, fruit with cereal or toatmeal in the morning, 1/2 fruit 1/2 veggie for lunch (with water and puffs) and a lean meat/rice/veggie (stage 3) for dinner.
No real food for us yet!
I think I"m going to try all stage 3's and not just for dinner. I think he's ready for that.
