Antibiotics

Any of you ladies on antibiotics for a sinus infection? If so, what are you on? My regular doc wants to prescribe a Z Pack, but I'm going to hold off until I see my OB tomorrow.

    The most recent guidelines concerning sinus infections are that antibiotics should NOT be prescribed.  Sinus infections are typically viral in nature.

    I developed a severe sinus infection and double ear infection after having the flu a few weeks ago, and was put on 500mg of Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. I kept getting sicker, only to find out that I was having anaphylaxis from the Amox. As soon as I stopped the antibiotic and took allergy pills I felt 100% better, but the doctor was still convinced that I needed antibiotics, so he gave me a Z-pack. The Z-pack is still sitting on my shelf because the infection went away on it's own. I do have a nasty cold right now, so at least I have the Z-pack just in case this cold leads to a sinus infection, too. But, I also woke up this morning with UTI symptoms, so I'll most likely need Macrobid in the next few days. I'm not comfortable taking 2 antibiotics at the same time. Bladder comes first.

    Well...i am suffering from Sinus infection...i never developed sinus infection in 15-17 yrs and as luck would have it i get it when i am preggo....i had been sick since past three weeks...first i developed Strep throat n had to take Amoxicillin 250 mg twice a day for 7 days...i got rid of the infection but developed a bad cold, cough n sore throat...thought i have a common cold nothing else so i started gargling n hot compress but i never got better and it continued for two weeks..then i went to see my physician and i was told that i have sinus infection...hmm...so i was prescribed Azithromycin for 5 days n then i have to go and see my ENT specialist...i have to take the Antibiotics or i could develop Pneumonia as told by my physician...

    I got a zpak for a cold, cough and loosing my voice after a week of it not going away i was done.. I took it cuz the doctor said it was fine during pregnancy..im glad i took it cuz im all better now. Im sure baby is fine too. But its good to ask for sure with your OB. :)
