Anyone have one or the other?  Any thoughts?  Advice?

Re: Mirena or Copper IUD?

  • I've had Mirena since March and I love it. The insertion was really easy, my periods are pretty short and getting lighter every month, and after the first 2 months most of my side effects disappeared.

  • I have the copper because hormonal BC makes me crazy. Insertion was simple. Only downside is heavier periods, but worth it. Also, the copper IUD is good for 10 years while Mirena is only good for 5.
  • This is my second time having the mirena and I wouldnt go with the other one because I have heavy bleeding normaly and did not want it worse. If you were ok in child birth you should be fine with insertion. Sorry if anything is spelled wrong my eyes are burning from the appitizers I cooked.

I have Mirena.  I'm a huge wuss so insertion was painful and I wouldn't do it again.  The hormones give me acne and sometimes make me a raving beast. However, I don't get my period anymore I'll take that over heavier periods (s/e of the copper one).

All of this. Except Im not getting the magical no periods thing. I mean they are less frequent but the few Ive had were equal to pre-preg ones, which sure beat the monstrocities that came PP. Its getting better.

  • I have cooper iud. Insertion was easy. I have had some spotting and light bleeding. Haven't had a period yet but had light periods in the past and Ob said that made me a good candidate for the cooper.

  • I have the implanon which is the same as the mirena but its a tiny tube goes in your arm instead. I love it! You dont have to worry about all of the side effects of it falling out, poking your hubby or going into your uterine wall. It has the same ingredients. I'd def recommend you looking into it.
