UTI or not?

I'm 10 weeks and I've had pretty bad pressure and cramping sensations in my pelvic area for the last 3 days. No blood. But today I started hurting for the first few seconds as I was peeing. I've never had a UTI , bladder infection, or kidney infection. Can anyone give me an idea of what's going on. I'll be calling my ob in the morning more than likely. Thanks in advance.

Re: UTI or not?

  • A few weeks ago I was experiencing something similar but tested negative for UTI and everything went away.  I think my uterus was pressing on something and causing irritation.  My last pregnancy, I had the pressure feeling and some pain while urinating and I did have a UTI.  It's worth it just to get checked.  In the meantime, drink lots of water and cranberry juice.  Also, make sure you are emptying your bladder completely when you go.  I hope you feel better soon.

  • I thought I had one the other day bc it hurt to pee for the first few seconds, I was crampy, and had the urge to go but then urinated just a little bit. I wanted to wait until the next day bc we were out of town so I would've had to go to the ER or urgent care. I drank about 40 oz of water and the next day I felt fine. So I dunno. But I guess I suggest flushing yourself out with lots of water? See if it gets better but def give your dr a call if it doesn't feel better in the morning.
  • I've had my share of UTI's and kidney infections.  Your basic symptoms would be pain & burning when you pee, you feel like you have to go all the time but when you try little to nothing comes out, extreme lower side pain (if its a kidney infection) and possibly clear pee as well.  However, I'm not sure if these symptoms change with pregnancy.  Definitely call your doctor and drink alot of water.  If you get dehydrated on top of it, it makes it 10 times worse!  Hope you get better soon!

  • Does it hurt in the lower/center part of the pelvis area or a little higher up to either the left or the right?  It could be round ligament pain which I get sometimes while going to the bathroom.  Also, does it stay after your are done going to the bathroom or does it go away right after you're done?  I've only had one UTI but for me it no longer hurt after I urinated, but with round ligament pain it lingers for a bit.

  • I have had 2 UTIs in the last 11 weeks. They are my first 2 ever. And they knock me out! I would call your OB and get tested. As soon as the antibiotics are in me a few days, I'm back to my normal self. Good luck!
  • Silent UTIs are common. I was goig literally every 30 minutes without the usual pain or burning and ended up learning I had blood in my urine. It may not be a UTI yet but definitely get checked out. I will say the silent uti is way nicer than a regular one... Coming from someone who had the painful ones monthly.

After my very first appointment at 9 weeks I found out I had a UTI.  It was my first ever and no symptoms whatsoever.  I think it is worth getting tested to ind out for sure. Good luck, and at least if it is one it is easy to take care of.
